Everyone who has ever posted, visited, or even glanced sideways at these forums needs to find S:AAB and watch.

It was one of the best shows to grace the wasteland that is network television.

You got anymore models in the works?

Knew someone would appreciate it :D

Anyway, yes - there are more threads in this very forum, ahev a look over the last couple of pages. Total models done currently stands at 11, although my definitaion of 'done' is pretty lose... at any rate they're in game and flying, though some have issues yet to be resolved.

Spent last night making missile models, and and some point I'm going to convert something nasty for the bad guys to use. The hard part is actually the Earth stuff, the Chig stuff was piss easy by comparison. I'm still on the lookout for any modellers who'd like to pitch in...

DG: So... basically, the model's an amateurish work at best, but you don't want to hear it and it's not your fault because you're modeling it after what was an amateurish work at best.

Spectacular.

Why did you bother post this thread again?

Because S:AAB was one of the very best sci-fi series of the 90's. Havbe you seen any of it? I'm sure you'll agree with me on that, at least. What I'd like is for people to appreciate that they'll be able to play a S:AAB conversion - I was expecting a little excitement at the prospect. Yes, the Chig mothership is a sucky design, but on the plus side you'll be able to fly a Hamemrhead and attack a Chig mothership. Which fact is more important?

I bet with the right kind of work...even that ship could be made to look a little more interesting.  Take a bit of creative license on it maybe...or another varient with some modifications.....

:drevil:

SAAB (not the car) was probably the BEST sci-fi
Only because it went into BELIEVABLE details about the whys and even better the hows that got us to war.

On my mind it is like TOPGUN (marine kind) against aliens.

On a sidenote, I say LET the model as is (that it is what it was drawn like), but MAKE gazzillions of other support craft like destroyers, battleships, cruisers, vettes that

have actually features on them

:D
If you want to be ready for Wing Commander Saga: The Darkest Dawn, then download and play the prologue first.

Here,

Then, while waiting for the Darkest dawn, Download Starshatter 4.02

You 'll understand why once you have.

You haven't left much room for criticism, have you?

But :blah:.  They're just sitting there, not doing anything impressive.  There's no sense of scale, either.  I'm not acquiainted with S:AAB, so I'm not terribly awed.  Let's see one of them blow up, or blow something else up.

Actually DG if I were you I`d leave these ships as they are and have them appear in one of the early missions. Then if you can find a modeller get them to come up with something much more impressive and introduce that as a new Chig mothership in a later mission.

That way you silence the critics who'd complain about it if you change the mothership and you also silence those who'd complain that the Chig mothership looks crap.

Doesn`t shut up those who complain about you adding non-canon ships to your mod but if TBP is doing it why can`t you. Besides if they still complain there's always electroshock treatment to help them see the error of their ways. :D

Yeah, and if I could do renders, actually make 3D models, draw beautiful textures and edit the source code then I'd be doing this in total secrecy until it was released. Part of what I'm doing here is angling for "hey, I love S:AAB and I think I can drastically improve your stuff. Want my help?" but instead it's nowt but ":blah:".

If I end up doing this all by myself, it will look sh1t, and only the die-hard S:AAB fans will even look at it.

Nevertheless, being the good little ***** that I am, I'll try and wow you a little more... standby

[EDIT] OK, try this one. This is in answer to the scale question. Obviously, there's a bit of weapons fire as well, but unfortunately you can't make out most of the UEF carrier's laser shots cos they're too small - it all looks a fair bit better in game. For the record, the Chig mothership is only a few hundred metres behind the carrier.

And if any one dares to aks why I'm loaded out with AOL Instant Messengers...

Well, DG, you would pick the traditional uni project hand-in and exam time to start it......

NB:  If it's the Marines in the TV show, surely you should be using the SAS?

Except that doesn't really answer it, because I don't know how big the carrier is. :) Put an Orion next to it, and let's see that.

Hell no - the SAS are equivalent to the US SEALS or Delta Force. The US admits that their special forces are modelled on the SAS and SBS anyway, on the basis of our 1337ness. I could have Royal Marines in me campaign, since they're starting to use Harriers just lately like the US marines, but I went with the Royal Navy. Mebbe I'll change it to Royal Marines, I dunno...

Yeah, I thought I had the carrier targeted, my bad - in any case, the mothership is 1800m away (as you can see in the pic), and it fills the screen. For the record, the carrier is 500m long and the mothership is 2000m high :)

They look good, DG. Venom's right though: go nuts with the modelled in detail.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

But I keep telling you, I don't know how. I didn't make these models, I just converted them. It took all my 3D prowess just to carve them up to make subobjects and stuff. I honestly have no idea how to edit the actual model itself - I'm just doing this to try and garner the attention of a modeller who would like to pitch in. And fair enough, I've had a couple of people say 'yeah, I can help you with that one', but I really need someone to actually sign up as the project modeller proper. Same goes for the textures.

It would be the Fleet Air Arm old chap, the RM would never have their own air cover (that doesnt mean RN/RAF assets cant be embedded) due to them being commandos.

But you should defo do brits, we know we had a land contingent, a carrier (that gone blown up :( )  and thus some fighters.

It did ammuse me how they addresed the fact that the USMC Air Cav faught on the ground and in the air it went some where along the lines of " your marines, stop moaning" = **** big plot hole.

Like I said a post or two ago (read more carefully next time), the Royal Marines are starting to operate their own fighters ie. the Harrier. I'm guessing they're aiming to be more self-contained, like the US marines. And don't worry, you don't need to educate me as far as the fleet air arm is concerned - I'm planning on joining up as a Harrier pilot myself :)

McQueen gave his briefing , and then said "Now lately, I've been hearing a lot of *****ing about pilots being deployed as ground-pounders. Let me make this clear - we fight where and how we are told. This is the marine corps, not the airforce."

Now, there's something else that just came back to me that I'd like to make known to those knocking S:AAB and/or my stuff. Three years ago, DaveB himself told me that S:AAB was one of the main influences on the FreeSpace series, and that he'd have loved to have seen a S:AAB conversion. At the time, I was a wet-behind-the-ears VBB rookie and everyone ignored me (as opposed to just the overwhelming majority these days), but it seems that since the game we all love owes a lot to S:AAB, the series deserves a bit more respect. Ithankyou.
