SCREW CANON!

Yup The last one is best.

That ship reminds me of a myrmidon.
Not that that's a bad thing you understand.

engine glows are easy.

I normaly go into modelview 32 and create a fake subsytem(don't save it)
Then I move it and size it to where I'd like the engine glow to be.
then go into PCS. select engines.
Add 1 thruster. in this thruster add 1 glowpoint per engine your ship has.
copy the co-ordinates & size from your fake subsystem  in modelview32.

Engine glows tend to look best if they are slightly larger than the flames they are inside.
The glow's normal is the way it is facing.
I normally have them as 0,0,-1 so they face backwards.

Any questions?
Phil.

I cant seem to get it to add a glow point.. I put in the coordinates, normal, the thruster properties, wont work. anything special you have to do before you can?

Well, I don't use PCS for engine glows, I still use FSMM2.  If you do it with FSMM2, be aware you need to use the proper sequence to prevent crashes.

  • Open POF file, save it, when the CHUNK select box pops up, check the FUEL chunk (it will save an empty FUEL chunk).
  • Re-Open the POF file, add a thruster glow.
  • Save POF
  • Repeat steps 2 and 3 until done

Oh, and one silly question for you... do you have thruster subobjects on your model?? (must have them to be able to add engine glows)

ummm. you don't have to have thruster objects to add glow points you know.
For instance the Pulsar model I did for a weapon was just the star shaped model and a light in Truespace.

I converted it in PCS and added 6 engine glows
to give it a cool lighting effect. No thruster  sub-object there.

PCS
1) click engines tab
2) click 'add thruste' once.
3) click 'add glow' 5 times

you now have a thruster with 5 glow points.
thruster properties should automaticaly read
'$engine_subsystem=$engine01'

remember to save when your done.

this is with PCS version 0.98.4r
