2. Haven't had that.
3. Didn't time them, but I don't recall 1.21 loading anywhere near 5 seconds - more like the 10-15 it takes 1.3 (on my comp; ie. I can't see a difference)
4. My upgrades have been seamless, emails included.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

in my experience, ME out of the box is more stable then 98SE out of the box, but once you start updating, 98SE wins rather quickly.

Hmmm. 'Snot what I had.... I don't have any problems like that. A mate of mine did, but then he just re-installed it and it worked fine... but you've tried that, right? :)

Windows 2000 and Opera 7.10. You IE users don't know what you're missing. :)

I honestly don't know how I would manage if I had to use IE, there just are so many things that are essential to efficient browsing... MDI, mouse gestures (I don't recall the last time I had to actually press any buttons), integrated search functions and engines (customizable!), excellent keyboard support, fully customizable interface and controls, allowing the opening of only requested pop-ups, great security, support for custom css style sheets (this enables some very useful tricks...) and it's light and fast too. Those are some of the main reasons for using it. :)

Hmm, should I put up a screenshot, showing how mine looks like... it's a bit different from the almost repulsive default skin... I go for extreme minimalism, and the features of O enable me to go farther than otherwise possible. Ultimate minimalism would of course be the usage of fullscreen mode all the time, but that's too much for normal use. :)
The nick is not a typo, it's a pun.

heh, gotta agree with that. In it's final days as a Windows 2000/9x dual boot my system had ME on it. For a 9x system, it wasn't that bad. Until I started browsing network shares that is. I'd browse down a few levels and every time without fail, it'd hang up and carry on forcing me to use the three finger salute and kill the Explorer window (which killed the entire Explorer and all my systray icons at the same time...).

Thinking it had something to do with the Network card driver, I downloaded the latest 98/Me driver from RealTek and proceeded to install it. Each and every time I ran the Update Driver Wizard it'd crash right after feeding it the driver. After several attempts, including one that forced me to reinstall all my network drivers and protocols from scratch, I gave up. I hardly ever used ME and was just about ready to torch both it and Windows 2000 replacing them with a single Windows XP install which I did and never had a problem since.

I have exactly the same problem, if I try to browse the network I have to be damn quick about it cause without fail after five minutes it will completely lock up, funny thing is though, if you leave it it'll give you access to the window for ten seconds then lock up again, it does that intermittently every few minutes. Weird.

I could never get my home network functioning. Went through half a dozen pairs of NICs, formatted and tried every OS, but nothing went. I think I lost half my hair trying to get it working.

WinME is the worst pile of code ever to leave Redmond, i mean, even Windows3x was more stable

As for my OSes, i'm using a Win2k station ('cause there's nothing else that runs Fred2, and XP is to bloated for me), a mac laptop, my main workstation is *still* my amiga, and my server runs Linux, and they all sing together :)

Cheers,
