yeah, I don't like comapring that controls to wing commander...
it is indeed the same in wing commander and in freelancer, tho in freelancer it works just great, and I remember when I was playing wing commander academy ( the oldest WC I have :( ), it was just horrible...

Having never played Freelancer or Wing Commander, I can't comment on this thread... and messing with the controls is not my area of expertise.

(Now, where's that Shivan? ;))

really? how does that play under XP?
no, let me rephrase: does it even works under windows?
I suppose the cutscenes for WC3 are gone?

Couldn't you map those buttons under control config right now thru binding?

I'm not into using a mouse for flight sims, but since the ships could be modified to strafe thru its tables (like I read somewhere), then II can see how fun this would be.

Btw, when u guys played descent, did u use mouse or joystick?

mouse.
well, if the mouse buttons can be binded already, that's cool, but I still want the mouse control :p
come on, that can't be that difficult :doubt:
or at least increase the mouse sensibility...

I agree, it would be nice to have a mouse control where you could point in the direction that you want to turn and the ship turns that way.  Actualy, shouldn't this be fairly easy to adapt from joystick contol?  The biggest problem would be going sraight I'd think, but you are talking essentially about using a mouse as a joystick.
who needs a signature? ;)

I think the main problem with this is that it would actually alter the gameplay because you would no longer have to face a target directly to shoot at it, giving the mouse users a significant advantage. The targeting reticle would be mouse controlled and so would turn much faster than the ship itself.

venom is not taling about mouse aim but about mouse control, eg using a mouse exactly like a joystick, like in freelancer or wingcommander, you still will have to face a target to aim it in the center of the reticle: the mouse cursor will not be your aim point, it will just tell you in wich direction are you turning and how fast (the more far from center the faster)
i still think that it will require some tests to set up at least the deadzone, and personally i'll continue to prefer a standard 12/16 button+ hat joy  to play space sims:)
