Hey all,

I've been wondering, since you guys are using nuke powered vessels & the timeperiod this takes places (pre-GW era, correct?), have you considered a situation with a nuke reactor going up in smoke?

there are lots of fun games to be had with radiation you know :)

Also, since the Mustang uses projectile weaponry, have you considered using the energybar that we now have as a temperature bar? (You'd need it to count upwards instead of downwards tho) Also, since these machines are quite old, i suppose they still use some sort of injection propulsion system, wich would enable the principles of fuelmanagement (hit the AB's tomuch > get stranded without fuel)

Just some thoughts, lemme know what you guys think

Cheers,
Sig? What sig?

The problem with most of those is that they'd require SCP changes. The fission reactor melting down can be handled by sexps and the special explosion field though.

Running out of fuel doesnt, just kill the afterburner recharge rate :D  Limited afterburners means that you'd have to use what you have wisely.

Oh, we're implementing a lot of new SCP stuff - don't you worry. ;)

As far as the reactor failure, that sounds interesting but it would probably only be necessary for a particular mission, such as the SOC one where Snipes sabotages all the fighters.  We'll keep it under advisement. :)

Oh but don't worry, there's lots of things one can come up with when a nuke goes up in smoke ;)

evacuation missions et all come to mind, aswell as actual strikes against power plants, after all, even spacestations need power, and solar power ain't gonna cut it when it comes to heavy machinery, so keeping in mind these things are shieldless, and the dangers radiation poses, there's endless possibilities :)

Those are indeed good ideas, young one. Keep it up and you might find yourself being very annoying to the people who have to implement them. It's the only way to be, I find.:D

:ha: Well, actually, i would be willing to aid out in that department to, to the extend of my possibilities ;)

I don't know enough to guess, but some of the things i mentioned should be possible with the current FS2_Open i think, like powerplants that blow up & stuff like that....

Offcourse, the radiation threat would need extensive work on FS2Open, so i doubt this would be implemented

The fuel principle however, i'd like to see implemented some day in FS2Open

Oh, btw, considering you'll also be using ballistic weaponry, you might consider recoil, such weapons would rock such small vessels when fired, especially the big ones, making the ship shake alittle might add to the feel of these older ships (and a recoil effect on the weapons....*drools*)

Maybe this rocking effect could be achieved with table entries, but i'm not sure, probably not...

Hmm, nuclear explosions... That could be useful indeed.

Would you be referring to the effect the Maxim makes?

If he is then that will be ineffably easy to implement.

What is the Maxim? :)

Is it a ship you guys made? A weapon? It doesn't ring a bell....

Do you not play FS?

Yes i do, but for all it's worth, i hardly know any ship's name ;)

BTW, i've been thinking of the radiation trick.... i don't know if it's possible, but one could set a radius around a craft/installation that's emitting the radiation, and give the player a vocal warning (perhaps from #command)

Get even closer & the player dies

So, what's the maxim? Or are you going to make me break open my .vp file? ;)

The Maxim is a gun. It is the mass driver, high RoF, long range, high hull damage and pitiful shield damage. It shakes the ship about like sort sort of shaking thing, and has a nasty sound effect.

Cool ;) Now that you mention it, it is kinda familiar :)
