'K. Here's my camp outline. It follows Derelict, but doesn't pay much attention to the rest, 'cos it's set in the arse-end of nowhere, so doesn't really affect events anywhere else
A year after the Nyarlathotep incident (ie Derelict) the hulk of an Ancients destroyer is found drifting in the Wolf 239 system. The GTVA boards it, and finds a wealth of information and technology, and manages to reverse-engineer advanced subspace sensor technology. This gives them the means to accurately detect and track vessels in subspace in tactical situations, and also the means to find subspace nodes. A network of new systems are discovered in the region, many of which are incredibly rich in resources.
These systems are quickly opened to commercial exploitation, in an attempt to improve the struggling Allied economy (still in a mess after Capella). However, this causes problems, as competing corporations use more and more borderline-illegal tactics to grab as much territory as possible to maximise their influence and profit. This is largely ignored by the Security Council, who need the materials to rebuild the shattered Navy.
However, it is not long before corporations resort to intimidation and violence, attacking convoys and hijacking or sabotaging each others' operations.
The GTVA is forced to take notice when a particularly vicious skirmish between two gangs of corporate thugs breaks out at a heavily used jump node in the Rigel system (newly opened to commercial and civilian traffic). A Vasudan cruise ship is caught in the crossfire, and 1500 innocent people die.
The GTVA responds by sending in the GTD Indomitable (an old Orion-class destroyer assigned to the 3rd Combined Pathfinder Fleet based in Wolf 359), the idea being to scare the crap out of the corporations (who wouldn't be scared by an Orion bearing down on you out of the dark?). The Indomitable's crew (of which you are a member) are under orders to stop the fighting before it spreads any further. At first, it works like a dream, and a large amount of weaponry and equipment is seized, and several key figures are captured and imprisoned. However, not all is as it seems - somebody has plans for the sector, and the 3rd Pathfinders don't figure in their designs....
Well??? Whaddaya think? I'm fed up of "Oh-bugger-the-Shivans-are-back-with-another-uber-fleet-to-wipe-us-from-the-galaxy-forever" type plots, so I wanted to go for something completely different.
Oh, I'm looking for some help with this, so if anyone wants to lend a hand, let me know!
