[q]You're an admin - can't you add rar to the list of allowed extensions?[/q]

An old question, a quick answer: it's usually inside the code, not an admin panel.

I have the mve files, andI have the avi converter, but I can't get it to work. So I guess I'm looking for the Avi files.

Liberator:Sorry, I didn't see the HLPBB before (like I said, I'm very new to this site, and I only recently got my copies of freespace back, So I'm kinda out of the loop)

That post was awhile back. You can attach RARs to posts.

I'm surprised the "You're an admin" didn't tip you off. :p

I know it's been asked, but I'll ask it again - is it possible now to integrate the fs1 movies, in whatever format, to the fs1 port, assuming you have the original files? And, if so, what must be done? Honestly, I liked the fs1 cutscenes better than the fs2 ones.

Two birds with one stone :D

That should answer both  Vasudan's request and most of Lukeskywalkie's.

To cover the rest. If you're running FS1Port on FS2_Open just drop those into the FS1Port folder and run with -mod FS1Port (Assuming that the VP files from the FS1 Port are also in the FS1Port folder)

If you're running retail simply copy the cutscenes off the CD into your main Freespace2 folder. This will however block the FS2 intro from being played until you delete intro.mve.

I'm reviving this thread again, because that link in the above post does not work just like every other link to downloading the avi movies on this site. So tell me, what happened between now and April of 2005 that made that link go down? What happened to every other "Get the avi movies here" link on this site? Have any of them ever worked??

Re: Anyone interested in MVE2AVI? :D
I think most of the people hosting them have temporarily run out of server bandwidth. I got them a while ago and haven't tried any of the links recently.

We need some more permanent place to upload these things. Does HLP still have access to Fileplanet for stuff like this? (as much as I hate that site)

We moved the Forum away from Gamespy. Yes they did work before.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

1) Pretty much all of them worked at one time or another. Kosh's site worked for quite a while but once he left uni they eventually cottoned on to the fact and removed the FS2 ones (but strangely enough failed to notice the FS1 avi files.

2) The current set are down. I'm waiting for DW-Hunter to contact me with details of where to upload them to.

3) I'm more than willing to upload them somewhere else if someone knows of a good place.

Actually, the Silent Threat hidden cutscenes on your site appear to work Kara, as does the MVE2AVI if people want to do it themselves ;)

The people at that university are incredibly incompetant. It ALMOST took an act of god to convince the people at the Financial "Aid" Office that someone might actually want to live OUTSIDE of the US for a while.

"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

I could put the movies on my webserver if necessary. Bear in mind it runs off a 1MBit ADSL line and I will reserve the right to throttle connections when they interfere with my housemates' gaming and my webcomic browsing.

Got plenty disk space though.

Re: Anyone interested in MVE2AVI? :D
DivX is probably the best known one, which most people already have the codecs for.

Re: Anyone interested in MVE2AVI? :D
XviD FTW.

It's somewhere around the same quality/compression as DivX, but is open-source and thus free.

At some point in time, I had an experience with DivX and Freespace that resulted in me uninstalling it and me forming some hatred of DivX. :wtf: I don't remember what it was, possibly some kind of spyware or forced-logo crap.

i installed it some time earlier from a CD i got to see a movie, and when i tried to open the said movie again 2 months later it said that the audio decoderrs trial date has expired or somesuch...

so, i'm a bit sceptic about XviD... will try tho, i have bout 6 gigs of fs2 movies sitting on my PC waiting to be converted :p

That's likely to be quite slow to download but it's better than nothing. Do you already have the movies?
