All I remember from the RFII review is quite how annoying the geo-mod engine actually was in practice - if you wanted to bust in to a building with a locked door, you couldn't just blow a hole in the wall if you weren't supposed to...

1. They had neither the time nor the inclination to properly moderate it.

2. It was embarassing for their current flagship game (Red Faction) to be so mercilessly slagged on their own BB.

I'm still shaking my head at how all-around half-assed RF turned out.

I was about to say it was the moderation (which, being non-existent, let the forum quickly descend into flames - something we have tried very hard to learn from here), but I hardly ever understood all the happenings of the RF section. That said, with all the opinions in the community floating around about it (as ZB has just voiced), I never bothered to get the game.

I enjoyed Red Faction, actually.  Multiplayer was fun when people weren't cheating.  It was always fun to play a capture the flag w/ RF and just blow your way thru the walls to the the enemies flag.  The maps they had were sweet also.  Geo-mod ownz.  That was the coolest feature.  Also the vehicles were pretty tight, too.

The only thing that Red Faction didn't live up to was the AI.  You supposedly could "sneak" around and not have to kill everyone, but there were times that the AI just KNEW you were there.  W/out even poking your head out they were already firing down the hallway or room.  Once they've find you and you were in a firefight, they didn't move too bad using cover, fleeing, strafing.

Also, the difficulty settings sucked.  If you increased the difficulty it would come to a point where the AI didn't get better (in the sense of using environment for cover, strafing, etc), but rather they would cheat.  They suddenly would move so fast that they're legs stopped moving, making them look like they were sliding or flying.  Accuracy for them would go up 1000% and they were almost always head shots (a headshot in RF meant instant death).

It was short, too.  I remember complaining that I had finished the game in too little time.

I didn't like the previews of RF2 so I didn't buy it.  A friend rented it for the PS2 and he said it was fun, but short.

And the graphics, level design, voice acting, plotting, writing, weapons, scripted sequences, cheat protection, and mod support.

Other than that it was just jim-dandy.

To all of this talk about Drugs:  I stand by my statement.

Also, I'd like to comment that my perceptions are already messed up as it is so I don't need any help from chemicals.
