Venom? yeah, that's kind of lame, I agree. Took that up when I was much youger, couldn't bother to change it. I happen to have two other nicks on other forums, tho :) ( not that they're much better, of course :p )

Actually drawing sprites has always been implemented. It's just that noone wants to create the interface for mission designers to add sprites (Glowpoints ARE sprites (albeit limited to additive blending), so that means modellers can already do some of the stuff).

don't forget explosions, lasers, thruster glows ect. are also sprites.
