People are still ordering FS2 disks to be burned from a certain factory I know of (250 sets last weekend)... With that new disk smell too...

I don't think FS2 is dead. It's my favourite game of all time, ever since I bought it. Which was, admittedly, only about a year and a half ago. However there are very few games which keep my attention for very long after I've completed them. FS2 on the other hand, I've played through many times and it still doesn't seem to get any older. And with all the mods, and more on the way, it looks like it's only getting better. I'll play Doom 3 and Half Life 2, and sure, they'll be great, but in the end there will be something better, and they will be forgotten. I can't imagine ever forgetting FS2.

Well, there's only one other non-franchised Space Combat game that has attracted this much attention after this many years, and that was Elite :D

ELITE!  Damn, that was a cool game.  I had a ZX Spectrum 48k copy on tape, but the Spectrum broke before I could get Elite to load...

:lol: I had to put my old tape player at full volume and leave the room, it was the only way my old Speccy would load :)
However, I was lucky enough to borrow one of my schools BBC Micros over a summer Holiday, and played Elite practically non-stop throughout :) I think it was that game that turned me into the computer game addicted wreck I am now ;)

Best way to beat a commute to work.

I haven't read throught the whole thread, but if you accept my opinion, FS2 will remain as it is(except of some SCP upgrades).
As to my experience, most of the projects ongoing now are stuck down.

All staff members say they do not have the time to do anything. If you accept an example, the latest file I received from a staff member of my own project(Renegade Ressurgence) was at the beginning of September. That was a zip file which contained some voice files for !!Mission 1!!

So FS is only living on the papers.

I suppose most of you are only modding for it, not playing.

I already announced my retirement twice, yet here I am. If I bring up that topic again, don't believe a word.

Well, I just got my P4 2400+ XP SP1 in order. Guess what game I will RE-play? Righto!

Am waiting for Lightspeed to finish lighting them up, but I might not wait any longer. As for projects, well there are more than you know! (I guarantee!)

Actually I've replayed FS1 more than FS2 - somehow it's more classy for me.

Nowadays the FS Port fills that void.

I believe the key is to have more FREDing going on.  It's been mentioned before by someone else, but we have all of these great MODs but almost nothing to put them in.  

Sure, there are the great campaigns in the works, but we need something to last us 'in between' the releases.  What is needed is the creation of a great many individual missions, both single- and multi-player, just so that we have something to play.

It cannot truly be that every FREDer out there is working on some grand project?  Personally, I'm somewhat surprised that we don't see more single missions being released.

FS2 will die when we stop playing it, but we need something to play with.  We need a flow of missions, as well as campaigns and MODs.
