****ed-up people happen. Torturing them, stoning them, or setting the remainder of their families on fire isn't going to do much to stop them being nutty, or discourage other people from being insane. Deal with it. Yeah, sure, the whole lynch-mob spiel with the self-righteous anger and momentarily justified sadism is kinda fun, I guess, but it's pretty impractical, and that's really the way bad situations get worse- hell, look at our foreign policy. Same deal.

Honestly, this particular situation isn't really the business of anyone here. It's a community remote from us, and people we don't know aside from in the most abstract- passing judgement on them seems a little... self-important, doesn't it? Thinking about the situation, taking measures to prevent similar situations occurring, locally or even (possibly) worldwide seems like it'd be an intelligent thing to do in response to this sort of thing; calling someone you don't know names because you heard a vaguely-worded, poorly informed news snippet about them is pretty weak.

Besides which, it's more fun to call people you do know names.

how are you going to stop insane people from flipping out and killing people, particularly the insaine people you don't know are insaine untill they do something like this?

I say kill'er and be done with it, locking her up for the rest of her life is close enough, but I'd prefer the executiuon,
however, to be totaly honest, I don't realy care what the **** happens to this person or the people around her, so long as they are far away from me, it's just like all the stupid other stupid irreleven horable things that happen that lose all relevence or intrest to me after about ten minuts, like the guy who killed his wife on christmas, who's name escapes me for the moment but you can't ****ing get away from it on TV... peterson, kill him what's the point in trying to rehabilitate the guy? though if he's in prison for the rest of his life fine, whatever, I don't care,
it's all just stupid random people amung the hundreds of thousands of stupid random people doing stupid random things that realy have no bairing on the rest of the world

I should note that my post represented my usual opinion on what should be done with murderers, and it was not influenced by self-righteous anger. I maintain this opinion constantly.

On the other hand, I agree that a short news article is not the best thing to base your judgement on. My opinion holds if general events presented in the article actually happened.

For once, I agree with Stryke.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Bah, IIRC you don't need any special qualifications to get a TV license it Britain. It's just a way of charging viewers to support the BBC channels.

's how they fund public "service".

I have a TV, and I do not pay any license. because I don't watch it that much.

Alright, I'm taking this thread OT:

[rant]

The BBC (British Broadcasting Company) has several TV and radio channels. They are advert-free, and instead their funding comes from the 'licence fee', which costs colour TV owners over 100 pounds a year (108, IIRC). What gets my goat is that I never watch BBC channels. I pay a huge cable bill (I got the sports package, so it costs) so I can watch cable channels, so why the **** should I pay the licence fee on top of that for channels I never EVER watch? The answer is that if I don't pay, I'll go to jail if they catch me.

****ing state-sponsored extortion is what it is. I try not to get in to political rants but this thing gets me more worked up the more I think about it. I really ought to find an online protest or something, so at leats I can say I've made a protest even if no-one in power will give a ****...

The other thing that I noticed is that our governemnt is pushing for as many homes as possible homes to get digital TV, so people have access to nuff information (the same strategy that sees generic eastern european refugees over here given broadband before they're given money for food and clothes). At the same time they push up the licence fee so that the BBC can compete with the milions of new cable programs. Bastards.

dg: same deal here in sweden. except you'll just get a fine. and they need you to confess to having a tv unless they go to the police about it.

oh, an empty bottle of julmust. that must mean I won't ever pay my tv license.

Actually to be fair, I'd be looking at a fine rather than jail over here too. £1000 fine, mind.

The solution apparently is, whan the licence man knocks, drag your telly over to the opposite corner of the room and hook all your consoles up to it. Claim that you only ever play Nintendo on it and deny all knowledge of the loose cable and ariel leads and TV-shaped discoloured patch on the wallpaper where the TV blatantly was three minutes ago

well, I could rearrange my place, but since you have to unlock two doors to even get to the hall, the risk isn't overwhelmingly big, as the rest of the people in my hall don't pay the license either.

They have the state-sponsored TV **** over here IIRC, with PBS, although they bury the cost somewhere in your taxes and they don't pay the station very much--PBS gets most of its money from advertisements and from begging for donations ("viewers like you"). There's also NPR, which is a government-funded radio station, but that money comes from taxes too.

As I said, the Teletubbies won't come after you with lasers if you pledge and don't honor it. You'll probably get sued though.
