The real deal from the horses mouth - The Descent titles did not go down to well in places like the UK (maybe not in viewpoints, but definitely in sales figures), and thus, the name "Descent" was changed to Conflict for the purpose of not misleading the public to believe this was a Descent title. Conflict Freespace is the official name for the European release of FS1. Anyone wanna add?

Descent is well known in europe, but not a big seller, so they went for conflict to avoid FS1 being judge from descent. that's all there is behind it.
