Ortho views would be nice. These angles don't show the profile well enough.

From what I can see, I dislike the spikes. Maybe they'll look better from a different angle. My second thing is the poly usage. You're burning polys on stuff that's either going to disappear under textures and that will look better done AS textures.

Remember, just because we CAN burn polys doesn't mean we SHOULD burn polys.

I don't know, while I find Raven's use of polygons extravagent in certain instances, I think he's being very responsible with adding that mid-level detail that FS restricted before HT&L, while not going overboard to the extent of needless detail.  Some of the plate extrusions are a bit much perhaps, but I think he's right on target for a corvette.

looks really nice. The engine could be better though.

He has a version in his model dump with square engines, and a bit less detail...

Why don't you like the engines so much? I think it is quite nice. However, some polymaniatics may criticize it for its relatively low polygon number.(I mean the engines here)

I don't like how they are round. They look funny on a boxy model... IMO

I really love the overall feel, with the non-boxy greebling it has. I agree that the spikes look a bit out-of-place, but overall it gets 2 thumbs-up from me! Now I wanna see it rendered from more conventional angles using a MAX skylight. ;)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

:wtf: does this 'greeble' mean? I don't find it in any of the dictionaries. Can you explain it?

Little detaily bits.  Basically stuff that serves no obvious purpose and exists solely to make a model look more detailed.

Imagine a Star Destroyer. Imagine the trench that runs down the edge of the Star Destroyer's main body. You remember all the random 'stuff' that's in there, giving the whole area texture and visual complexity?

That's 'greebles' or 'nurnies'.

Nurnies tend to be less random and more actual detail (like pipes and and cooling silos and stuff).

No, he's right, it is indeed the trench along the edge of a star destroyer that is the classic example of greebling.  The death star trench has this feature too, but it's not significant on the grand scheme of the station and thus is not usually considered the quinticential example.  I think the best scene is in Empire Strikes Back, where the Millenium Falcon is racing along the edge of the SSD's trench, right before it engages its hyperdrive.

I like the ship, but don't like the engines either:
it looks like you had some kind of organic looking ship, that has hidden into the wreckrage of a terran ship ( Patlabor3: WXIII anybody? :p )

Whoooo!!! So many diferent opinions!! Now that adds a bit brain work for me :D

Ok, go to the 1st post again and you'll find the corvette textured... it is not what I would like, but until I can get a texture drawer that is the texturing of the Calypso... and yes, this is the calypso of the model dump... only more detailed :)

I understand what most people say about the eye candy stuff, but that's what I had in mind: a not so boxy, extravagant and exotic terran ship...
Yeah, I know you were waiting for a very nice sig, in which I was quoting some very famous scientist or philosopher... guess what?!? I wont indulge you...

Why, you ask? What, do I look like a Shivan to you?!?

It looks even better with textures. And those 'greebles' are not visible from a distance the screenshots are taken.

looks great, except for the mjolnir texture just sitting right in the middle of the ship.  it wouldn't be bad at all if you could get rid of the brown parts in there

its gonna look even better with turrets on that

Getting rid of those brown parts is going to be made later IF I don't get a texture drawer in the future, and don't worry, it will become a fitting color :)
