I'm going to try and get a new graphics card but unlike most people Im going to try and get a really bad one.

My monitor takes two inputs that you can easily switch between my good one and this new one so I thought it would be useful to get a rubbish PCI card. I can use it to try and address some of fs2_open's problems with lower spec cards. Its a lot easier to fix this stuff if you can replicate it, might also help to optimise.

Any advise on which card I should go for, must be cheap (hopefully very) and actually avalible to buy from somewhere in the UK, must be PCI, probably 32 bit or 64 bit would be best and it would be good to have a non geforce card to give my 2nd test system a bit more range.

I would go for a TNT2 if I could find one. GeforceFX 5200 (I take it thats the cutdown one then) is a bit too recent.

I might have my old TNT2 lying around if I can find it...

Edit: Wait, I don't think it was PCI...

My old Matrox Millenium II barely supported 3D.

My old Ati Rage II Lt worked slightly better but still was worthless.

My TNT2M64 was a gem.

However, these cards all are rather old.

Perhaps you can get your hands on a Matrox Parhelia.

ATI Rage or the original ATI Radeon or a TNT/2 may be a good suggestion.  All of those still had good 2D abilities so you can always still use it for that....2D hasn't really moved since those cards came out.

I would take that as an excellent reference for Nvidia's quality. Basically anything Kazan rails against must be reasonably decent.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

if you want a AGP TNT2 16 MB i'd be happpy to send it to you in trade for anything slightly better.

mikhael hasn't a clue what he's taking about

RT, probably you should go for an used card, maybe an old matrox pre-pharelia.
A g400 would probably be the best: it should be cheaper than the g550, when the g200 is probably too old, and it shouldn't be that hard to find.
And it could also come useful for you since matrox always had excellent 2d quality.

i got an nvidia riva tnt2 model64 pro.... too bad fs2 open r doesn't work on it.
hmm.....

Get 2 VooDoo 2s and do that SLI (or what ever) mode they did.

I remember wanting to do that so bad when I was little!

You mean multiple cards?  Why not get a Voodoo5 then.  It has SLI built into the same card.
