What's wrong? Well, a police state is incompatible with the concept of "for the people, by the people", for one thing. Or how about "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness".

If conceptual problems aren't enough, lets look at the big one: a police state is a direct abrogation of the Constitution of the United States.

Whats wrong with a police state?  Goodness?  You need to ask that?

Restricted movement, restricted ocupation, state control of nearly everything, no room for queston or debate, law is made and then is enforced to the utmost.  All media outlets would also be controlled and screened fo content.  Its a total loss of democracy and it provides for a a door for the loss of civil rights, human rights, and dehumanization of those who are seen to be in conflict with the state.

If you do live in the states or another Western democracy, not knowing the dangers of such a system is indeed a serious problem.  Not specifically yours but the failure of the community and education system to try and preserve the education about the good that rights and freedom for people brings.

Wow. I had no idea. When I originally found the quote, no one had listed as a hoax--and I checked. I'll be changing the attribution to read "Unknown Internet Author".

Whilst the quote itself may be apocryphal, the content of the words is manifestly an accurate depiction of Roman history during Caesar's day. The same sentiments were echoed by Machiavelli, as well.
