Three ways to perform the impossbile
I have three ways of dealking with the Gargant. There all probably completly psycho ideas, but they would all work:

1) Surrender to the Shivans: the Heretic's option

2) HW2 theme: Terrans find an ancient superweapon and use it to destroy the Gargant

3) I will say nothing on this idea other than two questions:
  • Who here has played Star Trek Armada or Armada II
  • Who here has heard of the "Gemeni effect" :drevil:

Nope, the Gemeni effect cuases some timespace thinimagig that allows two of the same ship to appear in one universe. If you use it on the same ship more than once, you get more than one clone.

use it on the Icanus :drevil:

I'd just let it near a black hole...
Then its size will do the rest.

Hey, it's not that big after all, it's "only" 40km or so, not enought to have it's own noticeable gravity, it won't be sucked in a black hole better than a fighter...

Remeber that heavy things do NOT fall faster....

I know, but the mass in this case matter, because a fighter could always put enough thruster accelleration to jump, while a capship cannot because it takes much more to get the necessary speed for a jump...

You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.- Nietzsche

When in despair I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won; there have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall.- Mahatma Gandhi

Well ok, but gravity is a very weak force, so the gravitational attraction of a black hole becomes really strong only when you are very very close to them, plus black holes are really small, so i think no shivan will be dumb enought to get that close to one, especially the one in command of such a big ship (if ever exisit something like ship capitains between shivans...)

And beside, i don't think it's necessary to gain any speed before subspace jumping, that is for time jumping, and another movie as well  :)

Black holes aren't small, they are capable to eat whole stars...

If someone flungs a star at them.

Back to thread: I just wondered whether you [designers] had developed some kind of long range area suppression weapon? Like capship CM launchers, but for longer range? Because capships seem to be pretty short-handed (except beams) when it comes to fighters.

And just what sized are GTVA ships' defensive umbrella anyway? 1,5 km? 1 km? 3 km? [no beams plz]
lol wtf

black holes are small, if they weren't small they will be stars, not black holes, and no, stars don't fit into them, they got sucked a little at a time for thousands of years.

teorically black hole have no volumes at all, as they are effectively points with no dimensions at all, but of course what it matters (the event horizon) has a definite volume, that is usually much smaller than that of a planet, but also can be as small as an egg, if mr. Hawking is right.

back to topic: the gtva spaceships have unrealistically short range anti cap weapons, if you think that the LONG RANGE green beam don't even reach 8km, i suppose most ships will die in collisions with the gargant while trying to get close enought to fire their weapons

Freespace is short of realism in so many ways that it isn't worth talking about things like the ultra-high beam attenuation we seem to get over a few k. :)

Most big beams will have a range of 7-10k, the Apothess will be able to fire its long range cannon over 20k.

EDIT: Skaarj, it was indeed done with particle spew and a custom ani. Those plasma 'projectiles' fly fairly slowly and make a really nice explosion on impact. A capship under fire from an Oberon has so many explosion anis on the hull that it looks like it's melting.

compared to a star, black holes are VERY small, but extremely dense.. infact, they're much, MUCH more heavy than a star, to an infantessimal point..

yes, that's a thing i always do too when i mod, putting explosions on impact of primaries, it's really cool seeing desroyers under a fire barrage with their hull covered in fire :)

for the beams, i was talking agout the canon FS2 ships of course :)
