I'm wondering if X2 is moddable. Maybe we can put some FS models in there.

I'm puzzled (but then again I don't know pretty much anything in this field) there is no model files all I see are images and scripts?

They're probably stuck in a proprietary archive somewhere... or on the CD?

Well, what I mean is, if you can't find any model files in the game directories, it may stored in an archive that only the game (or a dedicated program) can read, like FreeSpace's VP files.

As of right now, to the best of my knowledge, the game is not moddable.

No support yet. You can do stuff like adjust what's available where, and stuff, but from what I understand you can't add ships, weapons, stations, missions, event triggers, etc.

Hieko Herman, how did he create the VPView?
Couldn't it be possible to find out where all this stuff in the right archive? and make a program like he did.
More to it I wonder since I've noticed

of games have .dat formats could that be what we are looking for? is there something?

That's definitely possible, but remember that HH's task was kind of an inside job. He was on the team for 'German localisation' of FS, but I'm betting he knew a lot more about the game's workings than your average marketing dude.

X2 is designed to be incredibly moddable. It's just that they haven't released any of the software for it yet.
