I keep trying to convince my parents to let me do the study abroad program in Australia for a semester.  My dad's for it. My mom's against it. I'll have to win her over. :p

What are you thinking of studying over here? And where? Ironically, I'm thinking of studying abroad too and getting out of Australia. ;)

I haven't really decided yet. I'm not 100% sure where they're offering the sessions. Either Sydney or Melbourne is where I'd like to go. Prefereably Melbourne, just because I 've seen a virtual tour of it on someone's site and I liked it. That's if the school doesn't drop Australia from the lineup (if enough students don't sign up) Why would you want to leave Australia? And don't say "probably the same reason you wanna leave America" :p

Go to Melbourne if you wanna get blown off your feet everywhere you go. If you come down in Summer (our Summer), it won't be too bad, but Melbourne is a heck of a lot colder than Sydney. I have some good friends down in Melbourne though, and they enjoy it there. But what can I say, if you come up to Sydney, you get to go to the first (and most kickass, clearly) university in Australia. You can even stop into one of my education lectures or something. ;) Well, for me, it's just to get wider experience. Australian teachers' qualifications are recognised everywhere as well, so getting a job would be fairly easy, and the experience of having taught in a totally different culture is very valuable - both for me and my future students.

So, probably not quite the same reason you wanna leave America. ;)

So, why are you coming over? And how long would you stay? There's heaps of things to see around here - especially if you come when it's warm.

I have one of those classic love affairs with Australia. Dunno why. Everything I hear about it I like. (Especially the art ^,^) If I had my way I'd go for a semester. Soak up the sights, meet the locals, and try to acquire the Aussie accent. ;) I really can't explain why I like it. But I feel like I have to go there some day. And the study abroad program may be my best chance. :)

We have that affect on people, for some reason. ;) This is one of the reasons why, when the time comes, I think the HLP Union (i.e. not Reunion) should be held in Australia. Everyone loves it. And yeah, you definitely wanna soak up the accent... heh. Though you'll have to go into rural areas if you want the strong stuff; in the city and coastal suburbs, the accent is quite international. I'd definitely take the chance if you can manage to convince your mom. ;)

So true, Turnsky. One of my friends who went there described it a bit like that (he's registered as Impurial around these parts). Btw, Four Seasons In One Day is one of my favourite Crowded House songs. :D

I hope to. Spring semester should be the best time (Since it is our winter, and your summer after all) And I should be able to save up enough cash by then to afford the trip. I hope atleast. :)

I guarantee you're not going to get the accent :p. I live with a bunch of North Americans, none has accurately picked it up.

And come to Perth! Curtin Uni has an awesome exchange program, and you're guaranteed to meet lots of other North Americans (which will be useful, I guarantee it) as well as a huge number of Aussies. It's less crowded, and more laid back than Sydney/Melbourne.[/sandgroper]
