You don't think we're already there? Christ, all the major political parties are tonsil-deep in some corporation's rectum as it stands, and I can't see it getting better any time soon (you can't change the law because you're not in government, and you can't get into government without being in the pocket of the people you're trying to turn the law against!). As I see it, all lobbyists should be shot, and no-one holding public office should be allowed to have associations with any profit-making organisation, on pain of pain...

I dunno about my political stance. I'm definitely left-wing, leaning towards socialist, but the finer details I'm none-too-sure about. My ideal societal structure would be something like that of the Culture (from Iain M. Banks' sci-fi books), but that's about as feasible as a chocolate teapot - given the state of our species at the moment....:blah:

KT: Thanks for the link! Though some of those statements were slightly obtuse...

Here's me.

Hmm, that's more extreme than I thought! I'm comparable to Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Llama!

there is the economic axis, thats Left-Right, then there is the liberty axis, thats Authoritarian-Libertarian...so what else...conflict resolution (war and peace) is pretty much covered on the second axis.

I guess you could have a cultural axis, going from Conservative to Progressive. Though that would only apply to yourself, since your willingness to impose that on other people is measured on the second axis.

how about one for cheese?
cheese lovers, Frenchmen for example, can be on one end of the secptrum, while cheese haters, lets say cannibals and vegans, get the other end.

I think that political science would be greatly advanced if we only we analyzed the significance of cheese in international affairs. There would be no more war, we civilized cheese-lover would finally be united against those filthy cheese-hating scoundrels.

I was semi-serious about sanity being the third axis as it's completely independant of the other two and it does affect politics. The actions of an sane right wing authoritarian are pretty different from those of an insane one. :D

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill
