a military as ridicilously over-power and cost-inefficient as Americas sort of excludes the possibility of low taxes, I would have thought that to be obvious. Cut your military down to a reasnable size, enough to protect your borders, and watch 30% fly off your tax-rate.

The problem with this Rictor is that when you are the world second most hated nation(the first being Israel) you need some big guns to defend you're interests, because otherwise those interests and anyone nearby is quite literally toast.
