Sounds like you have lots of drivers left over from the nVidia card.   This causes plenty of nightmares.

The uinstall button is very prominantly placed under your display settings under adapter.  Uninstall the drivers there.

Windows 2000 is not a terribly good gaming OS.  I understand plenty like it for its stability but you've got to be very competent with tweaking your OS and very comfortable rooting around in it to make it work properly sometimes.  Just a friendly word of warning.

No matter. The Nvidia drivers have been completely uninstalled; im currently running off the on-board AGP card. I also just re-installed windows.

Strangely, I appear to be having hte same problem Petrach did (windows loading, but display going off) how did you ever manage to fix it?

NO success.
I reinstalled another partition; but I encounter the same problem. It hangs at that same transitional screen; and my keyboard resets a short while after and all the lights go blank. it then hangs (as witnessed by the fact that no matter what I type, the keyboard or mouse dont respond)

Damnit; looks like im stuck with my geforce2 for a while yet :(

There is no DOS whatsoever in Windows 2k. It's a pure 32 bit platform.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Reinstall Win 2k with the new card installed...

That'll probably be the only thing to fix it. win2k may be more stable than 98 regularly, but when changing stuff, it's crap.
