when you sign up they give you a certain amount of invitations, which you can use to invite other people, etc.  the original signing up was only available for a short period of time.

i wouldn't mind a Gmail account :)  if anyone has any extra invites left

I wasn't given the option to invite people, or I'd give you one.  It's interesting how difficult the 'delete' function is to find in GMail.
who needs a signature? ;)

You have to wait - you don't get the invites immediately, though. Okay Fury, Falcon, Drew and Stealth, I've sent you all invites. Go get em. :)

Gmail is google's email service, like hotmail. Its new, and is a significant step forward, with 1gb of storage space and a search function for emails, as well as some other improvements.

right now, its invite only, but those who already have an account (who have themselves been invited by others) can sign up their friends. Its sort of a self-propagating beta test.

people thought it was a hoax when it first came out.  1 GB storage with 10 MB attachment limit, WOW...  i didn't buy it at first, i was one of the many (most) who thought it was some early april fools joke.  but there's still a lot of people very wary of it.
