Talking of SuperGuns...

Never realised the guy who designed Iraq's supergun was mysteriously murdered in 1990.

Indeed, the gun itself has been proved to be flawed, but I'm sure the guy wasn't laughing while they killed him :)

I believe he was refering to the actual article, which is what Debka is.  Look:

Since most intelligence experts concede Iraq has been capable of building radiological weapons since 1991, its super guns – which can deliver a nuclear payload over great distances – will be one of the first goals of a potential US-led strike againstIraq

Wheres the nukes and superguns now? The original supergun was built into the side of a mountain, and had a fixed trajectory aimed at the Saudi desert. The idea that a supergun the size of the one Saddam had has any practical military use is ridiculous.

Wow... just WOW... your guys really know your guns, that's impressive, it really is.  because on 99.99% of other forums, you'd have jackasses pulling out some random, useless ****e, like "thats a small gun, you should see this one: *pastes picture of a destroyer turret or something*".  no really, i'm impressed, that's one thing that's always amazed me, is how so many people in this community know their **** when it comes to guns.

now I, on the other hand, know nothing about them.  so i have a question... i only recently started playing Ravenshield (Rainbow 6 3), which is really the first FPS i've ever gotten into, i never played any of the other classic FPS, like ghost recon, counterstrike, etc.  so i've been wondering... on a lot of the sniper rifles in the game, and in the picture someone posted above, that sniper rifle on the end of the barrel has a little "V" shaped thing, with the two corners of the V pointing to the left and to the right... what does that do?

also, on Ravenshield my favorite guns are the L851, the FAMAS G2, and the G36K... are they real guns that are actually used today?  or are they 1) made up names or 2) guns that are hardly ever used or known?

The OICW was also in FarCry - best gun in the game. Kickass.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

nice little assault rifles, have you seen the new XM8's yet?.. they're aparrently gonna replace (eventually) the m4's/16s (whatever rifles the US currently use with the rather antiquated AR-10 system)

it's little wonder, really that the australian army uses a Steyr AUG, as its main rifle of choice ;)

"Old Painless" the minigun from predator, was not only a highly modified version of the actual weapon, but the weapon itself is actually mean to be mounted on the pontoons of huey helicopters..
it has a serious amount of recoil.

Hey, I've been wondering, if they're planning to replace the m4/m16 with the XM8, does that mean the OICW is just being pushed back or is it out of the picture completely?

There's a bunch of videos of the XM8 taken at some tradeshow, do a google search for Blackwater Shootout 2004. The way it looks in one vid, it has literally almost no recoil. A guy fired a full clip, holding it with only one hand, and it barely moved.

they're still streamlining the design, i think, 'cause as it is, the OICW is huge

Stealth,
those things on the ends of sniper rifles are muzzle brakes. They divert some of the gas from behind the bullet out the sides of the V to reduce recoil....  I think.
