[q]You damned betcha!!! And if you aren't "baited" as well, I feel sorry for the females close to you.[/q]

Think about this for a minute: You know he's not being serious, you know he's trying to get you to react the way you did, and you know those of us to didn't react were ignoring that act......

Aye.

Edit:

As to the rest of you, an0n's been doing this **** for years and most of you barely bat an eyelid. Get a grip lads.

I am sure that everyone here understands the severe implications of rape. That is beside the point.

How many times have you laughed at a joke that involved someone being killed? Humor is offensive. It's offensive because it's the alternative to being consumed by depression when you look at the nature of the human condition. Just because someone makes jokes about severe topics does not mean they're sadistic or ignorant.

but it wasnt a joke... its like:

'aw, my grandma died the other day'
'haha! she deserved it! - just kidding!'

:wtf: wheres the humor? since logically it couldnt have been a joke, then it must have been ignorant or stupid or something...

besides, theres nothing wrong with sadism.

The difference is that in your scenerio, the joke is being made directly to the person experiencing the pain, which I would consider profoundly insensitive.

That's because until recently i've kept him on ignore.  However I find that there are occassions when his insight is uncanny.  most of what i see from anon is government/religeon bashing or flaming people.  but in this thread, he's shown class.  so to be honest, anon saying things to bait people is one thing, anyone purposely baiting is one thing, i just don't think Janos was baiting anyone, i think he made a joke that he thought was funny.  There's the difference, that's why most of the time i ignore anon's statements, they are just bait, and why i didn't ignore Janos comment.

other than that, the rest was simply having a debate with pyro about how severe we view certain crimes to be.

does that help?

i never thought murder was very extreme... tis no worse than theft, really. youre dead, you dont care any more. (twould be quite restful, actually...) and anyone who is upset at your dying will get over it.

(oh, and dont point me to suicide-prevention things... *sigh* im NOT suicidal...)

and anyway, rape is more like a prolonged insult. its stuck with you forever. makes you want to be dead. insults are worse than murder or being beat up or something. tis very personal.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others.
