Hmm, I have to watch the new episodes. I have seen up to number six and it is very good. I think that I will download of a torrent.

Spoiler:
Although I will say I don't like how boomer is a cylon in 2 places at once and how the one pilot doesn't have a freaking clue. I also think the spinal column being lit during sex is wierd. The whole thing with Dr. Baltar, although a fitting punishment for what he has done, is wierd. Especially the scene with him jerking off.

Umm, something that seems to be escaping all you purists.

The Colonies aren't some random aliens that look like us.  They ARE Human.

It makes sense that they would have the same sensibilities as we do, live in the same kind of enviroments we do, and enjoy the same kinds of activities we enjoy.
So as through a glass, and darkly
The age long strife I see
Where I fought in many guises,
Many names, but always me.

Uhh, Boomer isn't in two places at once. They're both instances of the same model of human-form Cylon.

unless they are linked. something that is unclear are all the sixes and boomers interlinked?

As for the way they dress, it is strictly to give a feel of simularity like TOS. In TOS, actors were dressed in 1970s style clothing, but has a sense of uniqueness as well. Basically it is meant to draw one into the story.

Forty years after the end of the Cylon War, the artificially created Cylons declare war on humanity by attacking and destroying all of their twelve colonies. The military crumbles after their newly updated ships shut down in the face of a new unknown Cylon weapon. A lone Battlestar known as Galactica, due to be decomissioned and turned into a museum turns out to be the only thing standing between the Cylons, and total destruction of the human race.

On one of the flags during the speech Adama gives the ID-number of the "Galactica" is given as BCS-76 (Battle Carrier Star?). On the RC-2 DVD it is said that the producers/writers take a lot of references from the US and UK Navy. So this is proabally a reference to the CVN-76 "Ronald Reagan", the newest US Carrier.

NOTE: The Rising Star was the name of one of the ships from the original show's fleet.
At the end of the episode, the fleet consisted of 47,973 people.
The US version of the series, starting from this (the pilot) episode, made two subtle introductory changes: the Sci-Fi Channel added the episode title (between the "Previously on" section and the start of action) and changed the opening theme music.
At the start of this episode, just over five days have passed since the conclusion of the miniseries.
As each of the pilots leaves the flight briefing room, they touch a wall poster of another pilot, presumably one that died on one of the Colonies during the last battle with the Cylons, as a mark of respect.

7. Six Degrees of Separation
gs: Donnelly Rhodes (Dr. Cottle)

Baltar has an argument with Number Six over the existence of only one true god that leads her to disappear from his life. Soon after he is called to the bridge where he sees her standing there. He initially tries to pretend that he does not see her as is generally the case but soon learns that this Cylon is calling herself Ms Godfrey. She accuses Baltar of being the traitor responsible for the failure of the Colonial Defenses. She provides proof in the form of a disc that once analyzed will prove that he was responsible.

The chief and company are working to try and get the Cylon fighter to fly again but are completely unable to make it respond.

The president collapses while speaking to Baltar on the phone leaving the fleet in chaos.

Baltar tries to convince Gaeta to let him work on the decryption of the disc but he refuses. The computer finishes its analysis only to reveal Baltar planted the bomb he is accused of planting. He is arrested but freed after Gaeta runs another test to learn that the disc had been tampered with. He is freed and after apologizing to Number Six she returns to him.

Meanwhile, back on the glorious land of Caprica, Helo and Boomer continue their flight from their pursuers. The two have a few moments of tenderness followed by some hard core tongue action, while at the same moment Boomer back on board the Galactica opens her locker to see the word "CYLON" written in yellow on her mirror.

9. Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down

Col. Tigh's estranged wife turns up on the Galactica, asking for a reconciliation.

b: 13-Dec-2004 pc: 109

NOTE: The UK TiVo EPG has it listed as Secrets and Lies
The TiVo guide data actually has "Tigh Me Up Tigh Me Down" for Mon 13th Dec and Fri 17th Dec Sky One showings, and "Secrets and Lies" for the Thu 16th Dec and Sat 18th Dec Sky One Mix showings (but all with correct the OAD of Mon 13th)! In a normal week all four would show the same episode title. The Sky EPG, which is normally accurate (as Sky contractually obligies the broadcasters to make it so), lists "Tigh Me Up Tigh Me Down" for all four showings. Digiguide lists Secrets and lies for all four. But I think on balance that is wrong. "Tigh Me Up Tigh Me Down" must be correct.

Adama decides to launch an attack on a Cylon base.

b: 03-Jan-2005 pc: 110

That's just idiotic. Do the Masai Mara wear pin stripe suits when hunting on the plains? They're human too. They even live on the same planet as you do. According to you they should wear the same clothes you do when they're lounging around the hut.

There is no way in hell that humans whose culture has diverged from ours for as long as the humans in BSG would have ended with the same way of dressing as 20th century westerners.

While it might not bother me as much as it bothers ZB it is a plot hole almost as big as StarGate's everybody speaks english.

However I'll reserve judgement because there is an explaination that works. In the classic series the colonials were the descendants of the Mayans and other ancient people who had left Earth and in the series returned in the 1980s.

If we say that in this series they are descended from 20th century man then it becomes possible. Odd that styles haven't changed in how long it took them to forget about Kobol (or that such a retro look has suddenly become so completely fashionable again) but at least possible.

I'd say yes, they are. The fleet didn't pursue the Galactica into the nebula, even though it couldn't jump out of it. Since they'd lost contact with their agents on both the station and galactica, they were probably wondering what was up. The Galactica flies out, and they regain contact with Boomer and whatever-it-was on the civillian ship, and they realize the nebula is disrupting Cylon communications.

Of course, when they enter the ammo dump and find the Cylon left behind, he tells them that it destroys their neural interface.

One important plot point, I think: they don't have pictures of all the civilians. There could be more Cylon models in the fleet that we've already met....

original was a "family oriented show" Disney meets sci-fi with a high morality preached.

BSG remake is for you jaded gen y's "dark dirty sexy"

You cannot compare the two at all so don't even try.

Rememebr everything was stolen but altered from the original though...

Instead of the Colonials beign very religious (based a lot off the jewish/egyptian stuff) you now have evangelistic Cylons and relatively uncaring Colonials.

As the series progresses if you know what to look for you will see other such alterations.

In the original the traitor Baltar was evil to the core who betrayed teh Colonys for power to rule over the remnants and ended up helping to hunt them down. In this one Baltar is still a traitor but his evil is his weakness to take responsibility and now each week trys more plots to keep from being found out, thus committing more evil outof necessity.

I watched the new series and thought it pretty good. I'm definitely going to be tuning in on Friday nights now. Then again, I've never seen the original version, so I've got nothing to base it against.

I've seen it up to the Episode "Water."

This series is Freakin' Awesome. Better than SG-1.

It kinda reminds me of Firefly.

I think that the clothing and things from our world are there as a statement.....They aren't so different from us.  They have the same feelings, and the same ways that we have.  They also have the same fears and hopes.  Apollo modifying the board i think was a pretty powerful moment.  As far as he is concerned he iced a whole bunch of people, people that the human race couldn't afford to lose.  Notice that we see no reaction from Starbuck?  I think that is totally in character for her, but on the inside it is eating her alive.  I really hope that they play on that angle.

and Boomer....
the whole scene where she finds the water, and has her hand on the detonator.  is her imprinted personality struggling with her cylon programming?  By all rights she should have not admitted that she found that water.  and after a struggle to voice it, she finally did.
why the struggle?

but all in all, i enjoyed it.  I enjoyed how dark it is, because it really gets the point across as to how dark those times are for them.
You can't take the sky from me.  Can't take that from me.

Casualties of War

Maybe her personality's "attachments" are fighting the programming. Boomer's gotta be my favorite character in the show.

And that scene just pissed me off. If a ship is...

a) Full of nukes.

b) Unresponsive

c) Set to ram the Galactica

d) Has no visible passengers

e) 3 hours late

and

f) 'Mysteriously' is not destroyed by the Cylons

...then you shoot first and don't f*cking cry about it afterwards.

It might be something that'd happen if you had nothing more than 10 or 20 minutes of sleep for 3-4 days.  Judgement is impaired, emotions are high, hopes that surviors made it out, uncertainty of whats actually going on in the ship.

Take yourself out of yourself and put it into the characters.  Wrap context into what they have been telling in the story...if that was me, I'd be every bit as hestitant to pull the trigger as Apollo was.
