Most of the mehs were rennamed in mech 2, then renamed to canon (from Btech) in Mech 3 (and were kept as such in Mech 4).

And get what to work?

The Mech packs. I've tried various combinations of reinsatlling but the mofo just doesn't do anything. Should I still be using the original MW4 .exe ? I can recall the pack not affecting the main campaigns but the new content doesn't even show in the Instant Action bit.

Eit: Just noticed, I've got the IFF Jammer and Enhanced Optics but none of the mecs/weapons. That's kinda weird.

actually, both of the names for the mechs....mech 2 namews and mech 3 names are canon.  in mech 2, you are playing as a membewr of clan wolf or clan jade falcon, and going through the trial of refusal imposed by the jade falcons.  The Mechs are all clan mechs, and have clan names.

In mech 3, you are playing an inner sphere pilot, and therefore mech 3 uses the inner sphere designation for the mechs.

When the clans first attacked, the inner sphere gave names to the mechs that came in to conquer, but the clans had names for them a long time ago.  Think about it like this...do the shivans call a Scorpion, a Scorpion?  or do they call it something else?

The gist is, both names are canon from 1991 when CityTech (involving the clan invasion of the Inner Sphere) hit the scene.  if you have a games shop in your city that deals in used game books, you may be able to find Battletech Technical readout 3050, which gives both clan and inner sphere names for all of the clan mechs.

Hope this clears up any misconceptions. :)

The Inner Sphere names also have a bit of background to them too. For instance, they call the Timberwolf a MadCat because it looks like a cross between a Marauder and a Catapult. The Kuritans were the first to run into the Dire Wolf, which they called the Daishi. Its Japanese for "Great Death" or something to that effect.

And Ghost Bear's Leagacy was the best of the MW2 series :p

After that, MW2 Mercs. That is when you are first introduced to the Inner Sphere (playing from their side that is).

MW3's online play was buggered. MW4's and MW4: Mercs online play isn't. End of story.

You might ask around in the MechWarrior section here: http://www.dropshipcommand.com/forum/dcboard.php

Odds are fairly good someone on DSC can help you. You might even run into one of the developers, though that's a bit unlikely today.

Mech 3 online rocked...you just had to learn to lag shoot, which was a great skill to elarn, made playing the game more intense, because it was also about finding that person's lag lead, which (obviously) shifted on different AoA.  I Loved it.

You're supposed to be able to shoot at where some appears to be, and hit them, you know.

I'd make a smartass comment about that if I didn't like Mechwarrior 3 so much. :p

Of course, I don't think I ever really played it online. IIRC, I found the loadouts people were using incredibly munchy...and the gameplay was incredibly laggy... :p

we had some set rules for our games....it was either all energy weapons, and no "Zippos" which meant all flamers that come up and hit you once and make you overheat into shut down.  Or we would play True C6.  Which any weapons, but no missile boats, and no twin UAC 20's.  Worked out really well to get some interesting mechs to go against that way.

My c6 madcat was 2 lrm 15, 2 streak 6, and 5 erm med lasers...all clan.  targetting comp, jump jets, 5 AMS, max heatsinks, and the rest in engine.  good mech for all around fighting, max armor as well.

my energy mech was a shadowcat with 6 er medium lasers grouped four and two, max armor, jump jets, the rest in heat sinks and engines.  i could blast with the four mediums all day long without overheating, then when i had a clear shot i could alpha strike with all six for impact.  another good mech.

I played mw3 online a couple of times, mostly just 1vs1 with a friend. The only other times I played it online was a couple team games (which were kind of fun) and a deathmatch with infinite ammo (which sucked because everyone maxed out on lbx20 and it was instant hit or 2 hit kills all the time)

All I need is the mechs from all games, the names and music from mw2, the realism and gameplay of mw3, the online playability of mw4, and the graphics of mechassault on a pc.

That would be the pinnacle of my gaming experience, right there.

Funny is a infinite ammo match and an Owens with eleven machineguns.

Personally I always wentr for Ultra-20 + PPC or dual PPC setups - gaussguns are too heavy and don't hold enough ammo beside 2 PPC do more damage and weigh less than a Gauss....though make a lot more heat as well.

Good for long fights.

My personal favorites:

Thor: Ultra AC - 20 + 2 PPCs + 1 LRM 15 You can play long range, harras him with rockets and close in for a fast kill if things get personal. Normal armor, jumpjets and targ. comp.

Assault Madcat: 2 PPCs + 2 LRM 15/20 OR 4-6 MedPulselasers.
Lasers are for long battles against wave after wave of enemies with no time or option to reload at MFB. The pulselasers carry quite a punch and though they are harder to use, their continous fire means you can use them will the PPCs recharge and end up continously damaging the enemy.

I actually had MW2 on Playstation. Those Rank battles were an absolute beast. Fun though. What was the last one, 2 Dire Wolfs vs you in a Firefly ? :D

One of the best matches I ever had was at a LAN party. Everyone had assault mechs except for me. I had a ShadowCat with 14 ERSmalls. I kicked their asses. Hit the MASC and charge in, tag their legs and boot it out of there.

Myomer Acceleration Signal Circuitry, present in MW3, don't know about MW2, not present in MW4 or MW4: Mercs. In game terms, it ups your speed drastically. In MW3 it was at the cost of heat, in the tabletop game it was at the possible cost of frying your leg actuators and being rendered immobile.

It's a clan technology AFAIK - it was present in MW2 and produced heat.

IS mechs though could pack triple strengh myomers like the stuff Kai Allard's Yen Lo Wang was fitted with. It only gives off this much force though if the mech and the muscles are overheated.
