And some people here are just axing the connections between the dots :D
Man is making better fool proof machines everyday. Nature is making bigger fools everyday. So far, Nature is winning.

Well, we all are connecting the same dots. But unlike parrots, Humans can interpret it in different ways.

A parrot can be taught facts, but it can't come up with ideas of it's own.

For example, you can ask a parrot 'What is 1+1?' and it'll answer '2'. But if you ask it to explain why the answer is two, it can't answer. Unless it's been told by a Human, in which case he just copied the answer like it would any other fact.

Be sure to think it over. A parrot will last a lifetime (litterally. There's a good chance it will even outlive you yourself). Don't buy a parrot just because you like it when it talks, just like you would impulse-buy a sweater because it looks pretty.

It's a major investment IMHO. Not only in terms of money, but also in terms of dedication.

Millions of years of differing evolution. The parrots mind would work in no way similarly to yours. It would have different priorities, different ways of thinking, stuff like that.

Ape researchers see similar things with Gorillas and Chimps - their minds are closer to human minds of course, but their perceptual makeup still differs in certain key areas. Trying to get into the mind of a (wild) parrot would be near impossible, no matter how close to sentient they got, though trained ones are obviously going to be moulded to human personalities.
