Once again congratulations, however I must say I feel you're being treated as slave labour at those wages.

Well, it is under UK minimum wage at that rate, although I guess you need to take what you can get.

Yeah, it's under the minimum wage as well here... but it's always good to have a job and at the same time look for a new and better job. :) You still earn a bit of money while normally you'd be earning nothing while searching for a job. And it gives you experience, which is always a plus.

At least, that's how i hopped between my first few jobs till I got one that suited me and had a nice wage. :)
I AM GOD! AND I SHALL SMITE THEE!

Pay rate is all relative to the cost of living.  And I don't have a murderous tax rate of 70%-80% gutting it before i see it.  I should pull down ~$200 a week after taxes, which is enough to pay my rent and utilities.

You have to pay for more social services & healthcare though, don't you?

It's in the taxes, I've never actually had occasion to use them any further than that.

BTW, that's $14,560 a year before taxes, which is more than I've ever made in the same period in my life.

IIRC minimum wage in the US is $5 an hour, right?

Anyway, congrats Lib!

I ain't saying anything here, considering that the minimum wage here is $2 per hour, which is exactly what I'm making (then again, I have a job, that consists literally of nothing else than sitting for 3 hours, and chatting with your colleagues/friends), so good for you.

There's talk of uppin minimum wage to 7.00/hr, but businesses always cry that it'll hurt them too much. :doubt:

I wish min wage was ~10/hr... So I could get a nice default raise... :doubt:

Holy poopy. Minimum wage here is like 20 shekels/hr, which at 4.5 to the USD is around 4.5 bucks. :(

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Minimum Wage in the UK is something like £7.50 ph, which is around $15.

Not bad, problem is, when you take the Price of stuff in the UK, it realistically is equivalent to around $4.

Couple of quid too high there Flipside, its less than a fiver iirc

Minimum wage here is 7 euros an hour, although a labourer on a building site like myself gets twice that.

Oh aye and congrats libby.

Congratulations, Lib.

We don't even have an official minimum wage here. :nervous: Though "dumping" is not really a mass phenomenom, as people rather take the money from social funds then do cheap work. More of a reason for our rate of unemployment. :doubt:

On the subject of minimum wage:

An MW is generally a good thing, it guarantees that the employees will not get raped at the paycheck.  If it gets to high the employer has to pass on the cost of having 'X' number of employees at a minimum of 'y' per employee.  Also bear in mind that a minimum wage is just a starting point, it doesn't represent an endpoint for adult employees with many bills.  It's really just suppose to help ensure that young, entry level workers don't get shafted.  Besides, if you're doing you're job you should make more that minimum in short order.

A high minimum wage doesn't do anything but crush employment.

Because it's so easy to survive on 5.15/hr, right? :doubt:

You know the reason that the majority of people here in NY stay on Unemployment until it runs out?

Because the Gov't will pay the the equivalent of ~7/hr for an averaged 40 hour week to not work, and then try to encourage them to take a job that pays 5.50/hr, for less than 40 hours a week. When the former was barely enough to fight off bankruptcy. :doubt:
