New ship idea on a papertowel!
You know, just because something is drawn on a paper towel or a tablecloth it doesn't always follow it's a good design. Leonardo DaVinci, for example, did almost all of his designing on boring old paper :p

ngtm1r, try dividing the current rate of fire by 1000.  I remember reading something about it somewhere, where for a capship the rate of fire is much slower withy a normal weapon.  try that and see if it works for ya :)

Ahh, so there will be demand for the flag I'm planning on adding. That's good to hear.

Course; just look at the FS2 intro for how turret fire rates should be :D

New ship idea on a papertowel!
Well I must admit that I wasn't sure about the 200 spacecraft that it could cary but I remember seeing a thread where it said that a Hecate can cary some 150 combat spacecraft! So i Thought that since this ship is much larger then a destroyer then it should have some 50 spacecraft extra but then  again the size can be 170 for example. As for the weaponry well considering that this thing has to go head on with a ravana which we all know can make spacedust out of eny destroyer that crosses its path.....!

Also these ships or this class of ships would be quite expensive and hard to build so they will have to go where the GTVA needs them the most.

It is not another Colossus since the size is much smaller its weaponry is not that of the Colossus either. But rather well if u have a sector of the GTVA overrun by enemy forces and you do not have the numbers to equal them I say better them with something like this. Although I dont quite know how it would handle 2 orions at once since we all know that an orion is quite a powerfull ship.
Die shivan die!!

We already discussed why the Hecate was 150 fighters at its disposal. The answer a lot of us came up with was the balance worked, seeing as how the Hecate was never really meant for a heated battle zone (or even light battles, for that; the turrets are all junked up in random places and can't do much damage to enemy caps). Therefore, to balance it out, the Hecate can compensate by carrying lots of fighters/bombers to escort it.

Now the Orion, for example, is an excellent offensive weapon, especially if it goes broadside, but (running on assumption) fewer fighters balance it out so that it's not far too uber.

I've seen much worse, I'll admit.  BFGreen is not a commonly mounted weapon by any means, and doubling it up with the even more powerful LRBGreen makes it more difficult to swallow, that's not out of line for a GTVA warship ~20 years after FS2.  My problem is the self-replenishing fighterbay; there's no precedence for anything like that in Freespace, and it opens a logistical can of worms that's better left sealed IMHO.  For all the nay-sayers, the Colossus held 90 wings of fighters, so by rough estimation that's over 1000 combat spacecraft.  Yet you never see it launch a single wing in its own defence.

The only other statement I'd add is that without a model, the whole point is moot.  Stats are all well and good, but anyone here can do that.  Give us some eye candy, even if it's something extremely basic.

A ship with 200 fighters will sure as hell not have a fighter assembly bay; unless it's about 10km long with a giant bullseye painted on the side.

The Colossus, last I checked held 60 fighter and bomber wings, not 90. And wings, last I checked, consisted of about four ships per wing, totalling the Colossus's content to be about 240 fighters/bombers (small number, yes, but large compared to Hecate's 150).

And, yes, give us a model to drool over.

That raises the debate of what is meant by "wings".  The command ani for the colossus shows off the size of its fighterbay using a three-triangle symbol wings; whether that means 3 fighters or 3 seperate groups of fighters isn't so clear.  And I could have sworn it said 90.  Can't check right now though, so you may be right.

The colossus movie definately shows wings as being 4 fighters.  It writes 1 wing = 4 fighters, so it's definately clear :D

My bad then ;)  I haven't been able to get past the first nebula mission in a while, so I haven't watched that cutscene in ages.
