I tried that build already. I did get some improvment... 5-10 fps estimated. Tough making an assesment by eye.
Is it safe to assume that a 20+ fighter battle will effect performance because of all the local light calculations? By reducing the "lighting" setting in game, I got major performace increases in those scenarios. I'm not exactly sure if its the specular turning off when 3 dots lit for that setting. The 7fps minimum went up to 30.
Another source of performance drop (also in Bob's 3/14/05a build), firing a primary with a "0.12" wait setting, drops FPS by 30 with the BSG in the scene. Now imagine that plus 20 fighters firing = crunched FPS I've been experiencing. The graphic I'm using for those primaries are 3k and 4k PCX images. Same as the turrets.
