The Colossus has been reborn
It was "Seven wonders of the ancient world" and "Five wonders of the world".  Several ancient wonders no longer stood by the Victorian area, when the "Wonders" were re-discovered, and so things like the Great Wall of China got included where only mediterranian structures were in the "ancient world".  Off the top of my head I can think of the Lighthouse at Alexandria, the Colossus of Rhodes, I think the temple to Athena at Delphi, the great pyramids, and the Parthenon of Athens.  Though I'm sure they were re-ordered countless times throughout history.

Another stupid coincdence; the Colossus of Rhodes was a statue of Helios, the sun god (IIRC).

It was destroyed by earthquake after only 30-odd years, and was also built to commemorate the survival of a siege; IIRc Rhodes was allied with Ptolemy, later ruler of Egypt, in a battle to control the remnants of Alexander the Greats empire.

After it was destroyed, Ptolemy offered to help rebuild it - it was lying on the ground, i.e. could be put up again - but the Rhodians refused (I think they believed the statue had been destroyed by an offended Helios).

Corrected it for you.

When they find evidence that there were ANY kind of gardens in Babylon I'll give them their props. Till then I think its a pretty big coincidence that there is concrete proof that Sennacherib built a magnificent set of gardens 60 miles down the road.

Okay it's possible that he was mearly copying more impressive gardens in Babylon but they've still found very little proof that Nebuchadnezzar built anything of the sort.

Sennacherib on the other hand gives a detailed account of how he built them and also explains how he watered them using  Archimedes' screws (several hundred years before  Archimedes himself was actually born incidentally)

anyway rant over. :) It just bugs me that Babylon seems to be getting the credit for someone elses work. :)

From this, I conclude that anything named the Colossus isn't worth it.

I agree...

Naming something "Collosus" is almost as bad as naming something "Titanic"

The list for the 7 wonders is effectively taken off Plinys' (?) own list though, isn't it?  So even if they didn't exist, it's still the Gardens of Babylon on said list.

Antipater of Sidon was the source of the list and he lived after the time of Alexander the Great (who AFAIK never once mentioned the gardens even after taking Babylon from the Persians).

If you're taking the 7 wonders as being a work of fiction then yes fair enough the list must remain what Antipater wrote but if you're taking it as a list of real wonders that actually existed at one time then you must transpose the gardens to their real location in Nineveh or just boot them out completely.

I'm on the second to the last mission of Nexus. I thought this game was, overall, fairly difficult. There were a couple of missions I seriously had to try 5 or 6 times before I got it.

And I seriously wonder how Norbank got to that position in the first place, considering that I had to save his ass 3 times.

I also think that this was a great game. One thing I like about it is that it is "alt-tab compatible". You can pause it, alt tab, and then go back to it and it works without a problem.

"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

I disliked that guy as soon as i first ran across him in the game...
If not for some graphical glitches i had i would of finished it by now, but i got stuck playing CnC Generals and have yet to get back to Nexus.
