Psh.. I'm rather partial to the old school Vanilla beams. But meh... That one you posted, Kie, would be better if the Colossus were firing that one closest to the 'camera'.. and if it wasn't the Colossus. I'd like a Clash of the Titans style battle, with an Orion vs. Demon... but eh... not my decision.
Wh00t!? Vinyl? Is it like an I-pod 2 or something?

I did have an alternate version of the same screen:

Looking at that one, I dislike. The colors/lighting on the Colossus are horrible; it doesn't look realistic at all, and half the Colossus is glaringly bright while the other half is completely black. It's not clear what it's fighting and there's a huge amount of empty space in the picture that doesn't contribute to anything. The planet doesn't look so great and the Sathanas is undefined (although that may be because of JPG compression) not to mention there's a huge triangular bright spot on the Colossus that doesn't belong.

Granted, all of that's an extrapolation of my feeling of 'The picture isn't good'. I've taken probably somewhere around 1500 screenies and narrowed it down to 300 that I think are decent quality; not necessarily something that would inspire awe, but is simply good 'photography'; it's hard to explain because it's mostly intuitive. It may well simply be a matter of taste.

One thing I remember that a lot of the pics in the other thread suffered from was the dotted line syndrome, which you can see in this pic you took: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v517/kietotheworld/HideandSeek.jpg

Note the square on the Orion...it's jagged and broken up and looks altogether very unnice. It occurs other places as well. Sometimes it's not that evident in a pic, other times it just looks horrible. The solution is usually a good dose of AA. ;)

If you had a different angle for the Colossus/Sathanas pic, it probably could actually be pretty good. Although the Orion pic you'd have to enable AA get rid of the ugly-ass Typhon...it simply has too much tiling and not enough polies. Which is too bad, because I liked that part of Homesick. It'd make a great picture. Hmm, maybe a different angle on the Typhon...

Since I like to assemble my own effects groupings, and therefore don't have the mediaVP's... what is the current title screen?

Just a few questions:

Why do you have set two ships.tbl files in the zpack? (in mv_effects and mv_textures) Though they seem to of same size...

Do i need some additional textures for the decal effects or do i need improved exe file (using 3.6)? I just didn't seem to notice any textures, or is this one just another one of the bugs related to ati cards.

And why have you removed all the showoffs like abtrails and ballistic primaries from the table files? i nearly deleted the older 3.6.5s before i found that out.

Hmm, there shouldn't be two ship tables...

I'm not sure what the deal with decals is. Will have to check on that.

I removed aseffects because it was more trouble than it was worth, and was technically a mo, and the table was hacked up so that descriptions were tweaked, guns on ships and fighters were replaced, etc. One of the most common complaints was "Tables not working, fs2netd says they're hacked", and it was usually because of aseffects.

The one I went through and updated is the one in mv_effects, which will override the mv_textures one, so it should work properly. Actually, come to think of it, the one in mv_textures is probably set up to use the special Lilith/Leviathan texturees in case mv_effects is removed.

The cain is already in mv_effects so you'll be okay there. You're going to have problems cause you're missing cruiser01x.pof though.

DON'T put the high poly one in. Use the one in here instead. It's the standard FS2 one and thus uses less textures than the hi-poly one but has been remapped to use the leviathan textures. :)

BTW, just so everyone knows, mv_music should still crash 3.6.5 and anything but later builds.

It will probably break some of the music under 3.6, too.

No, cruiser3x is low poly, but has different textures.  All the truely finished high-poly models are in there already.

Wait until it's in the right forum first.  However, I can think of three things released in the past two weeks that should have been highlights, yet aren't.  I think that part of the forum is temporarily FUBAR'd, and not because of this April Fool's mess.

One question:  should the cell-shaded graphics be showing up in-game even with the command-line option off?  I threw all of the new VPs in my FS2 folder, and while using the F3 option on the main menu to look at a few of the new HTL models, I noticed that the cell-shaded textures were showing up, even though the command line was off.

P.S.  Speaking of the F3 option, is there any way to scroll down through the ships list?  It trails off the bottom of the screen, and I haven't yet figured out how to scroll through it.

I love love LOVE the orion now! It's got the runway lighted and flashing, just like in the ani. There's all these little details in the model now, it just looks much more...formidable, now. TY, SCP!

If you didn't put them in a mod folder and instead put them in \Data or directly in your FreeSpace2\ folder then yes. You should expect to see them all the time.

Next time put them in a mod folder. :)

Scrolling hasn't been implimented in that interface yet.  So no.  Switch to a higher resolution, that will let you display more onscreen at once.

Yeah, sorry, I've been at odds with myself whether to hardcode that in (somewhat faster) or make it more modular (make a 'scrollbar' class and have the text class add it as an internal child).

I'm probably being paranoid, though. I can open up something like 20 fully-skinned ships lists without any slowdown, and that's because of all the bitmaps being draw. :p
