If the non-fire-through-hull thing could be implemented successfully and with enough flexibility so as to not break backwards compatibility, maybe the Omega wouldn't have to vivisect its rotating section half the time it fires its guns in TBP.  Those gunners must really have it out for their crew at the rate they go.
