It does rhyme... :)

My problem is that I am too emotional.  But i do miss having that relationship thing.  Certain things are more fun when you have someone else with you.

No it doesn't. :p

Anyway, for those saying "better to have loved and lost..." should try it some time.  A couple years of happiness followed by many years of pain is alot harder than simply being content with who you are by yourself.  I would explain my situation in detail with depression on par with Liberator, but I already made one large post today, and I recently acquired Carpal Tunnel.  So put 2 and 2 together.  Besides, this thread isn't for wallowing in my own self-pity, it is for congratulations to steak.  Good luck, man :).

My feelings on relationships are thus:

I don't trust often or easily and, despite appearances, am intensly private.  Deep down, I'm almost always wondering when "they"* are going to turn on me, and thus are always preparing for that eventuallity.  Being in a relationship requires that I allow much of myself into what I feel is a public space.  I am not emotionally mature enough to do this, and likely never will be.  Thus I will most likely never know what you know Steak.  Congratulations on this.

What's funny is that by doing that, you're only making it easier for "them" to hurt you, because you'll never get the chance to be confident about the aspects of yourself that you're keeping quiet about. So you don't even have the chance to fall back on "This guy does X and he's fine" or "Everyone else I know doesn't have a problem with it" (putting them on the spot).

To be brutally honest, people are like dogs - if you don't trust them and act like you're afraid/nervous around them, they won't trust you either and will get defensive around you.

Being in a relationship does involve putting a lot of yourself out there, but it doesn't mean you're any more or less vulnerable than if you curl up into a little ball and snap at anyone who tries to get close. In one case, someone might try to hurt you; in the other, no one can be depended on to help you.

How can you have the gall to rant about how sad own life is in someone else's thread when you admit you aren't willing to take the same risks they are? You seem to have this attitude of "Well, I'm going to fail, so it's OK that I do," having never tried to do any differently. It's really not that hard to change that; find a girl that you're interested in, find out what interests you about her or something you're curious about (Unless it's her bra size or something) and ask her about it. Have a conversation with her. If she doesn't act like she's irritated at talking with you, you've now developed an acquaintance, which will make you marginally more interesting than the guy who sits in the corner and tries to keep from talking to people.

Thos're my two cents for the day.

Anyway, steak: gl hf ka dd. ;)

I wish I could find love. I just can't seem to fall in love anymore......

EDIT: Almost forgot, congradulations.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Best of luck. :) Can't say I've ever had a girlfriend; heck, I've never even been out on a date. :p  It's something I would like to experience someday, though.

Congrats Steak, it's always a wonderful feeling of completeness to be with somebody, and it's always good to see people happy :)

As far as partners are concerned, they say you always meet the woman of your dreams when you are least expecting it, so if some strange girl wakes you up at 3am to introduce herself, you're sorted ;)

I'm no great Romeo or anything, by a long long way, I've only had 4 relationships in my life, though all of them long term, I was terribly shy at school and could hardly even talk to girls, the only advice I can give is Learn to rely on your own opinion of yourself. People gossip and talk and giggle behind your back, it's human nature. If you ask a girl out and you get laughed at, big deal, you'll look better if she starts trying to show off and you just take it calmly and say 'Well, I had to ask, thanks', smiling and walking away. I really do mean it when I say you will be amazed at how self empowering walking away from a situation knowing that you were the one who acted like an adult is.

Lib, you really do need to try looking at your life from a different perspective, you tend to focus on your problems and percieved failings. I think you need to find some way to 'Fresh Start' things. Forgiving you for your mistakes is not a right bestowed purely on God, you have to do a little bit of it yourself, or you'll end up pushing yourself into depression.

Omg0z0r!!! It's Darkage! :D Hey dude :D

Anyway, I already posted my congrats to Setekh, but I wanted to say something to Lib: Stop putting yourself in such negative light all the time. Have you actually just tried it? Why not? It's not like you have anything to lose.

And WMCoolmon, even though it's a bad way of saying it, yes, people are sort of like dogs (I would say animals, for instance :p) :D But anyway, if you act like you're friendly, they'll be friendly to you. But if you hang at the back of the bar alone and stare unblinking at some girl who's talking to her friends, then they probably won't be too friendly :D

P.S. Kenny Logins and Danger Zone kick ass :D
