WCSaga Still Looks Beautiful
I was looking over the screenshots thread again, and I was just admiring how the good graphics are, even without cockpits and the type. As impressive is the mission design - these look at big, exciting fleet battles with lots going on.

I think this summer is going to be a great time for starship combat fans, and FS2 fans in particular, with BWO, WCSaga demo coming out. For one, I am very glad WCSaga is part of all this.

Yep, this is just praise. I hope it will keep you guys going.

I was just curious, where are the backgrounds coming from? Are they LS's nebulas?
Long time ago, you see, there was this thing called the VBB and... oh, nevermind.

Well, thanks , we do our very best :)

The nebulaes are LS's, if I'm not mistaken.

I just wanted to write a quick update to let folks know about a few developments. First, I'd like to mention that we're working as hard as we can to get the full game out by our announced release date. That work, however, hasn't blinded us to problems in the prologue. We've found a couple common errors that cause light failures, and are working now to get the fixes in place.

Additionally, we are working to expand the content of the game in order to offer you a perfect experience: among those additions are simulator mission! :)

Finally, fiction viewer is in progress. Basically, following stuff is to be done:

- Add some way to parse the text from the mission file
- Add code to save the text to memory and free it once done with it
- Scrollbars
- Set everything up so you can flip through the 'chapters' using buttons.
- Integrate it into the existing command briefing/briefing system. Most of the coding for that is done by WMC already, but hasn't been tested properly.

As always, keep the faith - the release will be available soon, so keep your eyes here! Comments and/or questions are welcome!

The screenshots are really nice, as good or even better than in the Wing Commander Movie... The work you're doing is awesome! :)

 What was the class of the ship we saw in the WC
movie, the one on which the confed fighters stationed?
Could anyone tell what Kilrathi units took part in the
                  movie?

Thanks;) ( I' ve never played any of the WC games, hence I don't
                have the slightest idea...:sigh: )

The ships in the movie where new creations just for the movie and except for using the same names and classes have nothing to do with Wing Commander...as did the entire movie...like the Final Fantasy Movie had nothing to do with any Final Fantasy part.

Still to solve some confusion here a small discription and pics how the ships looked ingame (the original games not Saga ^_^ )

Confederation:
The carrier is what should have been the "Tiger's Claw" a Bengal-class Strike Carrier.
This ship was your carrier in WC 1.

The fighters with that freaking big gun where Rapier-class medium fighters also from WC 1.

The Bombers where Broadswords from WC 2.

The ship Admiral Tolwyn is on is the "TCS Concordia" a Confederation-class dreadnought and your base of operations in WC 2.

Kilrathi
The fighter of the Kilrathi is called a Dralthi and the only ship in the movie that looked like something from the games.
You can meet a Dralthi from WC1-5

Destroyer...don't know what kind of class this ships should be.

Big Capship that dosn't have a navigation computer and gets sucked into a black hole is called a Snakier Class and is a heavy carrier.

If you want to know how other WC ships looked like here are two pages with some informations about the different ships.

If you would ask about my opinion about the movie I would say:
"That movie has never existed" -modified quote of the movie ^_^

Thanks Lars!

The movie wasn't the best s-f I've seen, although at least it gave an impression of spacefighter combat... seen in almost any space combat sim... ( If my memory serves me well, cause I've seen it only once in TV... )
Though the plot was "very original"  :doubt:

Actually I think the movie was just embarrasing :) If only they would have choosen other actors, it would have made the movie not that bad :)

It would have been much much better if they had somehow gotten the original actors to play their roles. (Slim chance of it happening I know but still it would have vastly improved the film)

At the moment we are in a difficulte phase. Betatesting makes progress but on the other side quite a number of teammembers have exams and the like.
Progress is made but we are also waiting for some codechanges from the SCP people so that we can finish some importend parts.

About the movieplot...reminded me of the movie "Das Boot"...don't know the english title...just with a carrier and in space.
I think the game movies where from the quality of the actors and story much better then the movie while the movie SFX was better then the game ones.

Actually, I'm almost 100% positive the fighters from the movie were Scimitars. They had the guns in the right spots, close in, where the Hornet's are too far out, and they had the Scimitar twin tail fins with little engine/equipment pods on top.

The fact that Jürgen Prochnow was in the WC movie might have something to do with it :p

No not every movie with Jürgen "Das Boot" Prochnow is like "Das Boot", but with the scenes like "stay silent or the Kilrathi will hear us" (what is quite pointless in space)...you get the feeling of it ^_^
Other thing was...well lets say their are some points and I don't want to count all the reasons why I don't like the movie.

But one thing I have to say...I can not forgive Roberts about what he has done to the Claw.
When I have (quite) some sparetime I think I should at last redo all the spacescenes with the correct models...well thats a whish of mine but I don't think that I will have so much time to do something like that in a good quality.

Only thing about the movie that I liked was the Intro musik and the composseting of the Intro.

The only thing I liked about the movie was "Angel" ;7 :eek2:  **drools**

I think she was much more pretty than the actor used in WC3, but that's only my opinion :D

It was explicitely stated that they were Rapiers. Though IIRC the confed handbook claims that they aren't supposed to be the same craft ans seen in WC1, but merely an older type bearing the same name.

And yeah, Saffron Burrows is hot.
