Well for those who have been wondering where I dissapeared to completley I will answer with pictures since I finally got around to taking some worth sharing. (yes I realise I wasnt around much before this either just shut up and enjoy the photos)

In no sane order:

The camera set in the rear of the tank for backwards driving without outside direction... I have a video of it driving backwards... ill try and set up some videos to upload overnight but they are huge...

Here you are looking at a tank with one of the turret armor sections removed and in the foreground the front area of the tank is opened because they removed the engine, which you will see in a later picture.

Here you see the reactive armor plating that can be bolted to the sides covering the treads... being simply bolted to the side they are easily removed and upgrades placed in their stead you also see the chain and ball "hair" on the back of the neck of the tank because of an incident of an anti tank missile hitting that very area and killing the entire tank crew they implemented the ball and chain "hair" which is also all reactive armor.

Here you see the 1500HP engine block sitting outside the tank according to the tank commanders there is something in the engine configuration or something that gives it x6 the power when needed... as in 9000HP (no they are not referring to the gears I made sure of that even though the tank does have 6 gears... 4 forward 2 backwards)

I wanted to see if you could see anything by taking a flash picture inside the 120mm turret... you cant...

A nice butt shot of the tank with rear hatch open. Through that hatch the tank crew of four can get inside the tank close the rear door start the engine and have everyone in their positions in under 11 seconds... yes we timed it.

You can also choose between a tank with 70 extra shells in the back or one configured as an ambutank able to fit 3 stretchers with wounded in the back or as an apc able to fit up to 8 armed men.
What you don't see with your eyes, don't invent with your mouth. Yiddish proverb

Staring death in the face. The roundish thing on the right is the imaging/targeting system...

Unlike older tanks the commander does not have to be outside the tank at any point, the tank advances up a hill until just that bit is sticking up and from there the target can be acquired locked onto the loader can load the shell and then all that’s left is to drive up a couple more feet till the turret peaks over the hill and boom. It gives the Merkava 4 a 20 second + advantage over other tanks enough to fire 2 shells.

After 20 seconds the tank retreats back down the hill because that’s how long it takes for normal tanks to turn their turret over that way lock load and be ready to fire.

The clusters of round things are the mortars and the slit on the right side of the turret is the parallel machinegun accurate for headshots up to 1.5km and uses the same target lock as the turret and can therefore also be used as point defense against incoming anti tank missiles if they are fired at enough range (no the gunner is not THAT fast... its the tank that detects a laser lock and will automatically lock the turret onto the source)

Next generation thermal imaging systems can make an ID on a suspect at 4km and read the label on his coke can. I think that’s what’s in the boxy thing on the left.

The plastic covering is on the commanders’ machine gun mount, which was just greased, and to avoid it getting all dusty/sandy...

Closer shot of the right side of the turret

View of the left side... the exhaust vent up front.

Now that is just sweet!

I only get to see the old AMX's around here. Compared to the Merkava though, they pale in comparision in pretty much every field.

Last I checked they were only up to Mark 3, but that was a few years ago...

For some reason that thing reminds me remarkably of an M10 Wolverine.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. Oh, I still do, once a year. It'll be weird come next February/March or so when we're both home on weekend leave at the same time.

Y'know, I don't think I've ever said the word Merkava in my life, so I doubt it'd present a problem :D
