Lemmy Kilmister rulez!! The guy has a wicked presence on stage.
Anyway, is it my impression or a very big percentage of HLP members are metalheads? And many also play the guitar? Maybe even in a band? I did, i was the lead guitarrist in a thrashcore band, but then drugs got in between and i left.
Sold my guitars to buy smack. I bought new ones a couple years ago, but the magic was just gone. I haven´t played the guitar in over a year...
No Freespace 3 ?!? Oh, bugger...

I play (badly), though not in a band - just for fun at the moment. May join a band/jam a bit when I go to uni, but nothing planned as such.

Did you kick the drugs all right? Nasty way to go, that.

new candlemass, i have enough trouble finding old candlemass, but i like the sound. il try to find it. my bittorent performance sucks because aparently my upload speed is only 64k and so its hard to keep my share ratios up.

id like to be able to play guitar but i dont have any musical talent. however i could probibly join a band as a vocalist. i could something slayer-esc or death vocals with practice. other than that my chances of ever being in a band are pretty much nil.

i kicked my drug habbit, its just a matter of avoiding the stoners. the only way id go back is if the leegalized it, i which case id start a buisness growing it :D as it stands ~40% of alaskans want it to bee legalized.

:p
I´m not talking about hash and grass here, Nuke. I was addicted to heroin for 15 years, hardly the same thing.
At first it actually helped my guitar playing, as it gave me inspiration. But then the habbit kicked in, and in a moment of weakness i sold the guitar and my Peavey amp. I regreted it the very next day, after the money was all gone and the cold turkey set in.
:doubt:
I bought a new guitar 10 years later, thinking i could regain what i had lost, but it was too late. My guitarrist streak was gone. However, a new streak was born in its place, the drummer streak. I´m thinking of buying a set of drums, now. When i was living in France, i used to play one almost every day, and i got really good at it.

i worked with a guy who kicked heroin. that stuff is bad. i almost got addicted to crack, after a week long binge on the stuff id figure id stop. wasted about $500. i never made it past the experimental stage fortunately. as for weed i probibly blew $3000 on the stuff. what a waste.

At least I am :) I'm lead/rhytm-guitarist in a melodic death band for ~ 1.5 years now. I'm on an ESP MII + Ibanez Fullstack (yay!) :D

its funny how those in norwegian black metal use perfect english, while people in the us who speak it as a primary language can neve use it right.

I am prepared. I have Tequila, Aftershock, Jack Daniels and a big bag of weed. A bus of 28 of us are going, drugs will be consumed, rock will be had and young girls will be thoroughly molested.

Someone said something about there being bands too, well I haven't heard anything about that....

I'm not a metalhead, but I like the music. It's hard to be anything metal down here - this is the tropics, land of the steel pan and the short pants and bikinis :p Not to mention I've only been to one concert in my life :D

But anyway, on Nightwish: They have a very unique sound, it's not like any other band I've heard of (other than the really bad imitations). It's metal with all the electric guitars, but they really use the bass tones - something a lot of metal doesn't do, in my experience at least (they mostly hit the VWANANANANANANA, instead of the VUM VUM VUM :D). Also, the lead singer (Tarja, I forget her last name *ashamed fan*) is opera trained, to be more specific :).

Anyway, Black Sabbath and System of a Down are the only two other bans in that group I've heard of. Black Sabbath I don't really listen to, and System of a Down has a bit too much screaming and not enough actual notes for my taste, but they're ok :)

Has anyone heard of Spineshank or MDFMK? I just found out about both of them, and from what I can tell so far, both are pretty good.
Check out "Torpedoes" or "Missing Time" by MDFMK, and "Smothered" by Spineshank :)

Spineshank are to be fair, wank :) I have an interesting story about going to see them but that's for another day.

MDFMK were a sort of sideproject of the band KMFDM (I think it's due to name rights or something, pretty much the same band) who themselves are pretty badass, check out Skinny Puppy or at a push Nine Inch Nails (new album is badass BTW) for similar sort of thing, Ministry do the same sort of deal but more guitar oriented, also, Cubanate are damn good.

i wouldnt call there sound unique. its typical power metal as far as the instrumentals go. its also not the only band using opera trained vocalists (therion). i do dig tarja's finnish accent. :D this this type of sound is almost non-existant in american mainstream, though it is quite common in europe.

im more a liv kristine fan myself (theatre of tradgedy, leaves' eyes, and a few others), though she has more of a gothic metal sound. alot of beauty and the beast volcals. shes also a million times hotter that tarja and with a softer voice. she did guest vocals on the last cradle of filth album, which i thought was kinda cool (actually thats what it took to get me to listen to cof again :D).

as for the ones trying to capitalise by imitating this kinda sound (and poorly), like evanessence (anyone notice how scratchy her voice is?), they should be executed by a flamethrower weilding firing squad..

I don't know, I do like to listen to European bands (my tastes are pretty diverse :)) as well as American bands, and I haven't heard anything like Nightwish. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying I haven't heard anyone. It's more than likely I've just been looking in the wrong places :D

So can you point me to the right ones? :D
