What if artificially induced supernovas are typical in the FS universe? :drevil:

It wouldn't matter, since you were talking about a typical one in the real universe.

The Shivans were looking to barbeque some meat and veggies, but one of them decided to throw some gasoline on the whole thing before they started, and blew the whole damn star up!  They laughed about it afterwards, while eating burgers and drinking beer, but it scared the **** out of them at the time.

on the shockwave moveing faster than the speed of light. it didn't, in the mission you get a mintue or two before it hits you. the cutsceen HAD to be a time lapse (though it was obviusly eyecandy)

In the mission, you get exactly a minute before it hits you. Keep in mind that light takes eight and a half minutes to get to Earth from Sol, so the GTVA fleet would have to be rather close (relatively speaking) to Capella in order for there to be only a single minute delay. And the cutscene had them quite a few planets outward from it. Then again, you could see the Saths in the distance in the mission.

The moral of the story is not to look for scientific details where they don't necessarily exist. >_>

I just wanted to point out that the cutscen took two seconds while in mission it was a lot longer

Yeah, I see your point there. Volition just obviously didn't want to bother making a 10+ minute cutscene with a perfectly scaled solar system.

Would've been damn funny to watch though. The Deimos might've even made it out alive:

BUT... who said the supernova started at the same time the counter starts counting down? command only knew about the shockwave when the light from it got to their sensors. the light could have taken 8 minutes to get to you, and the shockwave, traveling a bit slower, takes 9 minutes. this leaves one minute between you knowing about it and it hitting you.

Now there's something that makes sense. Especially when ignoring the cutscene.

There is possibly a time lag between the scene cuts of the FMV. As for the explosion quickly engulfing planets... err, maybe the video was sped up, like the opposite of slow-motion. :)

Yes, I'm suspending my disbelief. :)
