How about a beam-protect-exclusive?

What it would do is it would cause a ship to be beam - protected, but only from certain ship(s) that were specified in the editor. So you could make it so an allied cruiser couldn't fire on an enemy destroyer, but an allied destroyer could, while the allied cruiser was still allowed to fire beams at other targets.

I could think of a lot of times where this would be useful for me in the missions I have made.

Can it be done?

Is it a good idea?

I am sure it can be done and I like this idea. But if it will be implemented, fat chance. Try the lottery, you have more chance there.

just use fire-beam for anti-warship beams and just free the AAA beams.  it may take a bit of work scripting fire-beam, but you have a lot more control over what happens.

I considered that, but it was unworkable in my idea since it didn't provide the level of freedom for the battles I needed, so I had to scrap that component of the mission.
