Multiplayer Missions
I can't make them, god knows.

But most of you can, and some of you can make some spectacular ones at that too.

Now, Cetanu's contribution to these while PXO was around can't really be measured.

He essentially epitomised the multiplayer missions by making them well balanced, fun, and above all, rather useful.

Now... we have all the missions we're ever going to need in FS2 to complete our medal boxes.

But, playing them over and over becomes limited. As good as they are, it's always going to be a "points-hunt", and I was wondering, now that we have no frustrations regarding validation, and even moreso, after PXO gets repaired (fingers crossed) - I was wondering - maybe some of the already existing interesting ones could be re-balanced for multiplayer (I assume people have made missions throughout the years that don't require mods, and even now with the ongoing competition... there should be good missions to choose from I reckon), and maybe new ones can be made, which are more fun. With the new SCP FRED features (that already exist or the ones that are coming), it should be possible to expand on the whole thing, right?

Anyway, it's just an idea I wanted to toss out to the people who can do it.

I was working on a new MP campaign idea a couple of weeks ago and apart from DaBrain and Maverick no one seemed particularly interested. That might just be cause I was pitching to the wrong audience talking here rather than on one of the multiplayer boards I suppose.

I also ran into the huge problem that just about every new SCP SEXP I tried worked for the host alone and not any of the clients.

My next step with the campaign I put up will be to replace the change-ship-class SEXPs and try whisking the original out and replacing it with another ship using the get and set position SEXPs but it's a fair bit of work, I'm only about 50% sure that it won't fail for the same reasons the others failed and most importantly of all I've been too busy this last week to work on SoR or MG let alone something I started as a side project.

I would like to see some new multiplayer missions though and having seen how Cetanu's missions work from his tutorials I know that there's a lot of challenge involved in building a good one (Which is generally the point at which I become interested in FREDding something). :D

I think Su-tehp was doing what you are talking about with some of the main campaign missions, rebalancing them for multiplayer use. I haven't heard from him in a long time though.

Do people still play FS2 online, over FS2NetD or whatever else? The design of multiplayer missions is generally quite different than singleplayer ones, with more focus on challenging gameplay than story elements. I made one at some point that may still be floating around somewhere out there, but never really followed it up with any more.

I guess there will always be the problem of the missions getting repetitive after a while, but the selection is still pretty decent at the moment, mainly thanks to Cetanu's efforts. Much better than in the old days, when the 14 Volition co-op missions were all that were available (and out of which only like five were regularly played for some reason) and the only medals people had were 50 or more DFCs. :D
