Hey, I saw Serenity. Surprisingly, it didn't suck. Utterly predictable, but it didn't actually suck.

It's just that holywood, now isn't simply too lazy to make good stories, but is too lazy to make stories alltogether. So they just strip em off videogames...

Well, you don't expect them to call it the Big ****ing Gun on national American TV, did you? :p Plus, it was supposed to be all scientific and serious, that's why they renamed it probably.

To a certain extent, so was Doom 3.  They just called it the BFG.  Which is all you really need to do.  Of course, since the bad guys were no longer demons from hell, I guess a bio theme makes some sense.  Maybe.

I guess the fact that the cast didn't actually know it was supposed to be the Big F***ing Gun is really the clearest indicator of something wrong.  You can't actually publish that little tidbit without getting slammed in the press, but you would expect the lead actor to know what his gun (since it's the penultimate weapon in the game/movie) is called.

I think I've figured out how it could have been a good movie. It should have been a satire making fun of the multitude of other terrible game based movies rather than joining them. ;)

Personally, I think you all were a bit too high on the expectations...it's not like Doom has ever had much more then pointless action and gore going for it. That the movie had as well, so all in all, it's probably the most faithful of the videogame movies yet made.

As for the worst...man, you folks forget so quickly. Wing Commander

I suppose tomb raider came as a disappointment to the people expecting a movie where lara croft jumped between square-shaped pillars to solve stupid puzzles in low-texture caves.

angie does her part quite well, I must say. people expecting an action-puzzle game made movie to be exceptional and intelligent are dumber than the script.

I honestly didn't mind Tomb Raider either.  I didn't see the sequel, but the original was a decent action flick, at least.  Angelina Jolie did a pretty good job taking on the role, both personality-wise and physically. ;7 The only other video-game-based movies I've seen were Mortal Kombat 2 (on multiple occasions...TNT used to show it all the time a few years ago for some unknown reason) and the end of Street Fighters, and both of those took the definition of "cheesiness" to new and scary heights. :p

Wait... you mean there's a weapon even more powerful than the BFG?

One I fell asleep in TR2

Two, that comic hit the nail on the head and as I expected they didn't do the hell theme but I was ok with it. I just wanted some mindless entertainment and see Rock blow people/monsters away... For my $7 bucks I wa satisfied seeing it on a big screen...

At least it wasn't the travestry known as Wing Commander...

I actually thought that the Resident Evil movies were decent movies (no idea how accurate or inaccurate an adaptation from the game they were, since I never played it).
SERIOUSLY...! | {The Sandvich Bar} - Rhino-FS2 Tutorial | CapShip Turret Upgrade | The Complete FS2 Ship List | System Background Package

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill
