ok, I think I've mooted this before, but it's an idea I find interesting.....
Basically, the idea is a campaign created by a large section of the community. (duh!).... of course with a single person / group who take the cirtical decisions.
I've had a couple of ideas for what could be done - this purely from a modellers perspective though;
Starfighter
(yep - it's also being done by Jonskowitz...I think)
Basically, a near future thing... every modeller interested makes a small number of ships representing their country - ditto for weapons modders.... eventually, evry FREDer possible gets a shot at making missions as defined in some overall grand plan. (War by proxy between Terran nations in Alpha Centauri...?)
NOC (Near Orbit Combat)
Closer to a deathmatch thing than a campaign, sort of aseries of mercenary battles in - yes - near orbit of a planet. Each modeller designs their own signature ship - possibly using adapted support ships as a 'bolt on' weapons rack unlocked in a Gradius / R-type type fashion when a certain objective is achieved (plus support ships are visible fom the player view, so you could have a sort of big weapon sticking out the front this way)... etc. Not so great in terms of story potential, though.
Ok, these are only my ideas, and they aren't great. But the genral idea is a new universe, which encourages creativity and fredders and modders to come forward.... plus it reduces the burden of modding, etc for the staff by distributing the workload. In theory, the only person who'd have to be fulltime with the project would be a campaign co-ordinator or group.
So, any thoughts? Ideas?
