No offense but your not involved in any Interplay procedings, therefore you saying this wont happen is coming from less then an official source.

There is a chance it may get picked up and sold to a company to be developed, but if we think about it, Freespace 2 is hardly heard about between gamers, so i doubt it will get a sequel but you never do know. Ive seen crazier things happen in the gaming industry.

Can FS3 happen? Yes, certainly. When it comes to developing games, if someone finds out that this game can make them some cash they will begin developing it.

Interplay being owned is the best thing to happen to the Freespace series, atleast now it has a small chance of being developed whereas before Interplay just wanted to bury the title.
When it comes to games, they make the ones people will buy. Does FS have enough fans to warrant another game now? No. Will it in the future? Who knows....

No offense, but neither are you ;)

Interplay's dead.  and even if they weren't, i guarantee you they weren't even thinking about making another Freespace title.  there aren't any Interplay "proceedings"

Admit it, Freespace 2 didn't sell near enough to warrant making a Freespace 2.  not even close to enough.  And it's not the game's fault, it's the company's fault.  Go ask someone if they've heard of or played Freespace 2, chances are 99% of the time they'll say "no".  it's not like they played it and hated it, it's they never played it (or even heard about it) in the first place.  it's a shame.

I honestly haven't.  Gaming comanies don't go pick up some small title and decide to make a sequel out of it.  Because they don't want to take the risk of it not ("making some cash"), even if they throw all the advertising and effects they can into it.  The closest thing we'll have for the Freespace series is the source code project.  Throw your energy and effort into helping with that, not into wishing for a Freespace 3, which as we both agree, chances are will never happen. :(

Don't think i'm being negative, because i guarantee you i want a sequel as much as all of you do :) but hoping and hoping and hoping for it isnt going to help the game get a sequel.  And in a way i don't ever want to see a sequel.  Because if one is ever made, you know it's going to be some stupid, poorly developed, console game.  We all know what a great game it was, that should be sufficient enough .  There is a future in the SCP... not a chance for a sequel, but a future nonetheless!

Actually.......we have chance of a sequel.
No, not some #$@$# sequel a big company can develop. We dont need them.
Once Ferrium is ready, we will have the tools, we will have the textures - we will have everything, and then......all we need, all we need is the story. Get the ex-designers to fess up about that, and a sequel can be done almost immediately with the current tools at hand; but doing it on Ferrium would bring much more prestige to SCP's might.

Stealth: Why are you trying to be a killjoy for no reason? No duh, Intercrap's dead. That's why we are happy. Intercrap dead = FS rights go somewhere else. With the FS rights somewhere else, that leaves a chance that that somewhere else will decide to do something with them. Simple as that.

Why do you always look so far to the 'bright side' of things that you fail to see the simple, plain, truth.  NO ONE in their right mind is going to attempt to make a sequel to a game that barely broke even, and that no one's heard of!  Game companies don't think "oh, but the former game rights holder didn't publicize the game enough, so we'll make a sequel, and publicize it right, and it'll make us millions. $$$" they don't want to risk it.  it's not. going. to. happen.   grasp that fact.  the fact that Freespace 2 was a dead loss thanks to advertising and publicizing is made even worse by people saying "But there is a chance of FS3 in the future!!111".

the source code project, and ferrium (as was mentioned) is THE only chance of a sequel we'll ever see.  so get used to it... and stop sobbing about how there "might" be a FS3 one day.  be happy with what you already have.

You're being overly defensive for no reason and making up things I never said. No, Freespace will probably not have a third installment. That doesn't mean that there is a possibility however. The fall of Intercrap only increases that possibility, however inconsequential that increase might be, it is something to hold onto for the optimists around.

Not to mention it makes it less likely MVEs will be so illegal.

Although it does mean PXO will probably be down permanently.

KT:  true.

WMCoolmon:  Doesn't Volition own PXO?  I think it does, though i could be wrong.  If so, then i don't think it will mean the end of PXO, since Volition is still going strong (so it seems anyway :) )

But, Volition is WHOLLY owned by THQ and only makes console games though.

All the PXO code was removed when the source was released because, IIRC, Interplay had patented it. So unless Volition bought PXO, no, I don't think so.

i wonder if they took PXO down if a private company or individual could offer to keep it running online, on his connection, just for the poor sucker(s) that want to get online now and then and play a game or two

Wasn't the PXO source code released a little while back? I remember reading about it.

I always thought the PXO code was removed to prevent cheating.

no the PXO code was NOT released

PS: you need to merge this with the other thread on this topic, because this one seems to be asking questions answered long ago in the other

That's what I thought but I could swear blind I saw a post from someone claiming it had been released (This was after you'd already got multiplayer running so no one paid much attention to it). IIRC it was over on VWBB not here.

well PXO's website is down now, and has been down for some time.

has anyone tried playing on FS1 or FS2 to see if PXO still works?  i assume it does, because i'd bet the Descent 3 guys would put up a fuss if it just went down
