you know I think a good music to use would be the FS2 cinima soundtrack, or the updated version thereof.

Just to show that I haven't forgotten about this entirely, I present the hardest 16 seconds of work of my musical life. What is so hard about it is that I had to model every syllable...

It also gives you an idea of what I'm working on at the moment ;)

Sounds nice... but it will accelerate, right?  (get faster pace, like rock or something)  Then maybe slow down again at the end.

Hehe, don't worry, it will, that was just the guitar only track I did a quick mix-down on :)

Ok, I'm about half way through a 3 minute piece I'm doing with a mind for making a video, I've got a very quick mixdown of what I've done so far, so it stops pretty abruptly, this will be extended on ;)

http://www.aqsx85.dsl.pipex.com/qmix1-1.mp3

So far I'm kept pretty much to the standard theme, but I'm thinking of pulling something new for the next section, just sort of symbolising the fact that not only have we made old stuff look sweeter, we've moved it into a whole new level.

The mix here isn't perfect, the guitar is a bit loud still for my tastes, but once you've been listening to it for about 50 times in a row like I have, it all sort of blurs into one, making it hard to make decisions about how it sounds.

Any ideas/comments/suggestions?

That's really working out to be a fitting piece Flipside, just keep on the track you've been on.  One thing that would be nicer is if the percussion were a bit clearer, and "harder".  That's just my opinion though.

I agree with Swantz (and / or you); either the guitars need a volume drop, or the rest needs to be louder.  Preferably the rest louder, unless you're neer 60-70% volume already...  The average volume on the track should be 60-70, I think.  Also, when the male voices come in before that, there's instruments playing.  I do believe it would sound better if either the voices or the instruments were made background (I'd prefer instruments background, voices front)... either that, or rearranged a bit somehow, as they seem to not do so well when they are the same volume.

All in all, great work... do I detect a bit of Descent - style there?  :D  As well as FreeSpace in the first part.

The guitar and (especially) the drum tracks sound a bit compressed compared to the rest. Also, it sounds like these tracks are lacking in the lows and highs (filtered?).
And.. would it be possible to "stretch/slide" the starting note for quitar a bit?
Other than that, I liked it :)

Thanks for the comments guys. I've also started a seperate thread, mainly because, having listened to it this morning, I realised just how dangerous mixing on your own can be with regards to comparing volumes, so I'm going to post updates in here and get feedback at several stages :)

The track normalised, which I think caused the problem, because he guitars are so much louder than everything else, so the drum 'punch' and the guitar riff both sound compressed.

I think the drums are too echoey at the moment, one of them has a long reveby sound which sounds gorgeous on it's own, but I think it starts to 'slur' the audio after it. I'll take a look at something a bit more aggressive in the drum department :)

Any FSO pimp video should show off the BEST things community has to offer.

Thus it MUST include:

1. best glory scenes from the BSG: BTRL
2. Best glory scenes from the ST project
3. Best glory scenes from the B5 project
4. Death Star Trench Run..and some SW ships.
5. High poly stock ships duking it out!
6. Various good looking custom made ships and fighters!

Then, and ONLY THEN will it be a true FSO glory video...naturally, it has to be long to fit everything in....

Hi!

I watch this Forum a long time ago and you all do an awesome job!

I just registred to give you this song that I find very cool and with some nice shootouts it would be a great song for a video (besides your mixed mp3 sound good, too!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYFFAbyOSXY

the song is called Asylum from the Band Edguy... Would be great to hear that sound and see Freespace 2 in action (with the new warp effects and some slow scenes in the beginning and than great battles with fast scenes followed by ships that get shot by flak cannons and beams all over the place...)

Wouldn´t it be cool if the shivans win the battle in the video and at the end there comes a message like "Now it´s up to YOU! Finish the fight!" ^^
