Anyway, I'm used to having minority opinions.
It seems likely your "minority opinion" in this case is actually caused by some brain disfunction which denies you the capacity to properly interpret human facial expressions on anything other than a literal human face.

/not entirely kidding

//that, or you've simply never seen any good non-humorous animation

Eh.  Go to the video store and rent Castle in the Sky by Hayao Miyazaki.

*slap*

That be Laputa or Tenki no Shiro: Laputa.

But that's actually not one of the greater ones.

Personally I'd reccomend Ghost in the Shell followed by GITS2: Innocence if we were going for grand-depictions-of-****ing-awesome. Laputa is really for kids (though it rocks hard for adults as well).

Ugh, not GitS. That overrated pseudo-philosophical twaddle falls squarely in the "well it makes sense if you've read the manga" category.

The series is quite good though.

Cartoons were depicting the News long before photography was.

I quite liked Titan AE, but still think Starchaser : Legend of Orin was a far better film, if much much older, great music and a Humphrey Bogart lookalike, you couldn't go wrong ;)

The series is quite good though.

Saw ten episodes, it was allright but nothing special considering the character development is non-existant to fake at best considering the whole point and punchline was evolution.

And as far as the movies go, err? It all makes sense without the manga. I never read the manga, never need to.

The series doesn't have any character development because it's not supposed to. Each episode is intended to be (ahem) stand-alone.

Re: A Movie All FS2 Fans Should See...
Yeah, I got that, but no character development just simply isn't my cup of tea. I mean the action is great and the stories are great, the art as well, no problems there. But no character development makes it too dry for my taste.

I need the experience gained and coherent interaction with emotional consequences for... well, a sense of realism if nothing else. Without it it's like watching... "ghosts" heh.

Re: A Movie All FS2 Fans Should See...
The series pulled a "Matrix: Revolutions" at the end, where the last 10 minutes of the last episode were of some super smart person yalking about how the entire universe is "something" (I say something because I don't even know what they were talking about, that's how confusing it was. At least in the Matrix it was "choice" or whatever). It was an OK series, but it suffered from trying to be too Goddamn smart.
And BTW, the series did become relatively episodic towards the middle.

That would be the second season? I thought the first season ender was a more action-packed affair.

And that would be why it felt so much like Firefly then.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Re: A Movie All FS2 Fans Should See...
Titan A.E. eh? Well I was a Don Bluth fan since Dragon's Lair and Space Ace so i had high hopes for Titan A.E., back in the distant past. Oh yeah the first few minutes are fantastic. The earth gets blown to pieces with huge chunks of it wiping out the fleeing ships (which I always though was particularly evil :D ) then you get that fantastic Electrasy track Cosmic Castaway which sets the scene perfectly. Once that's out the way, things fall apart pretty fast. The characterization is the problem. I simply couldn't get on with any of the alien characters (which is most of them). Killed the film stone dead for me.
Be warned: This site's admins stole 100s of hours of my work. They will do it to you.

Saw this one ages ago on TV...
The film itself was ok, but it was nothing special really...
The characterization and the certain scenes were too simple/not realistic/didn't have the dark feeling they supposed to have...

GITS on the other side is great
I liked both the first movie and TV series ( it was a bit high-tech so you needed to listen carefully or you wouldn't understand many subtle  plot features  ;))
The second movie had great special effects, but the story was a bit messed up ( at least I had troubles till the end part of the movie to get everything right  )

Second movie was a masterpiece (provided you understood it of course) as far as I'm concerned.

You do realize that 90% of Don Bluth's movies are crap, right?

Re: A Movie All FS2 Fans Should See...
Why is it that with all the anime "masterpiecies" that everyone always seems to say, 99.9% of them are unintellagable and oftentimes too complex to even understand what's going on? Does it make people feel better and "deeper" when they can't understand the movie?
And anyway, Macross Zero is indeed balls to the wall awesome, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. Macross: DYRL? belongs in that category though :D
