Firstly, what is the latest version of FRED2 open?  Is it 3.6.5?  Because I have that (or, specifically, 3.6.5 debug), but it doesn't work.  Something about not finding some files or something.

Second, how hard is it to create mission briefing animations like in FS2?  I fear it is very hard...

1) The latest version of FRED2 can be found in the CVS builds thread in the SCP recent builds sub-forum.

2) Not that hard per se, but can a lot of work. First you need a succession of images to make up the animation that all use the same pallette, and then you need a program like Anibuilder to link them all up into an FS2 compatible animation.
