There's nothing to apologize for.  We took the correct action, both when we banned CD and when we unbanned him.

Swapping hotlinked images with something else is an established method of discouraging people. If there was stuff worth hotlinking on my site, I'd redirect all hotlinks to the nastier pictures on the web.

Come to think of it, that works for preventing people from using your 'unsecured' wireless. All unknown hosts simply have their packets mangled according to some simple rules:
* Replace all pictures with goatse,
* Run a Swedish Chef translator on any plaintext that won't break the packet. Recalculate checksums as appropriate.
