1.) I was having a problem where there were no weapons in the first mission for some reason, and none selectable in the loadout room.

2.) Your Squad Logos - very cool, but how to work with them ? I thought they were only for designers and not for end-users...

Download the mission fix (I think it's in the VP too), start another campaign and then re-start the FOW one.

You should put them in the players/squads folder and you shuld be able to use them for any wing when FREDing a mission. You cna also select them in the multiplayer, but I think the barracks has a limit of 64 logos, so the extra ones won't be shown.

I just encountered the strangest error ever (TM).

SPOILER


It was in the mission where you need to disarm the Legion and oversee the capture.

Well, everything was proceeding as planned, I got the thing disarmed and killed the cruiser and all fighters from the area, and called the transport in.

Then I protected it from incoming Ulyssei.

It docked. Released the MArines to do their Hoo-ah! that they're supposed to do.

It undocked.

And the Legion started bouncing all over the battle area, killed everyone in vicinity by bouncing movements so rapid that it just flickered in the screen. That's how I died.

I'll have to check if I can reproduce this behaviour. It gave me quite a shock. One time, the transport was undocking, next I was dead and I just heard "Mayday! Mayday!" from the radio...

Okay, the bug is reproducable at least on my computer and on my FSO installation.

Shortly after the marine transport undocks the Legion, the destroyer starts to rotate most strangely.

The center of motion is probably the docking bay used by the Argo class transport, and the destroyer starts jerkily rotating that spot in a plane.

If you happen to be outside thoe Orion's rotations reach, nothing else happens and you get to jump out without further problems, but at the first time the Orion hit me to the kingdom come.


I don't know what causes this, but I would bet it's something related to docking (or undocking)... is anyone else getting same problem?

Yeah, I got it too..

I can't understand why it's happening though.. I imported the dock points and paths from the Orion..
I even hand checked them and edited them a bit after that bug happened. And it happened again.

Did you import the mass and MoI from the original too? What you both describe sounds more like a problem with that than anything else.

Still, when something too big for the bay undocks FS normally ignores the fact it's too large and doesn't trigger collision troubles.

What is moment of inertia?

I only know of linear momentum, and angular momentum (which is also just one form of linear momentum).

(Conservation of) Momentum is the consequence of inertia. Inertia is a property of "mass", ie. mass is defined by inertia and ability to produce gravitational effects... And conservation of momentum is the cause of linear momentum, and also angular momentum.

By the way, do capital ship collisions in FS Open obey the conservaton of momentum?

Load up both models in Modelview and use the pof editor to copy the value from the original to your version. The second you described your problem I would have bet money it was MoI problem.

Well, in both models the MoI is all 0, the mass is almost the same (941600128.0000) and the center of mass is off on hte hulk by 0.48 but that's it...

just to be on the safe side I copied it all...

I noticed something during those missions... The pilots call you by whatever name you enter as your pilot profile.

I've never seen that before. How did you accomplish that?

It's a SCP feature.  Just put $callsign in the message (or briefing or whatever) and it will be replaced with your actual callsign.

You could have also just opened the mission in FRED and looked at it. :p What happened to the lust for experimentation?
