So I recently got Descent 3 for Linux, and everything (menues ect looks like this



The actual game runs, but only at a couple of FPS.

My direct rendering is on.

That's pretty funky.  No idea what's going on there, but perhaps someone on the Descent BB can help you out, so try posting there.

I actually think that I've seen that problem before.  Did you apply the updates (last version being 1.4.0b)?  I think it's using the wrong libGL, which is also why it would be slow (especially if you are using the NVIDIA drivers).
