Make them pay like everyone made Germany pay? Not like they could really afford it anyway.

Right.

Clarification: I didn't mean that should actually be done. I'll add the sarcasm smiley to my previous post.

Re: Someone finally backed down in the North Korea nuke talks
NK will nuke Japan then surrender to South Korea before anyone can strike back.

interesting but it would require something that isn't true.

the current regime is living better than the populace as is the military, they get everything the ppl get nothing why give that up.

it's also doubtful that they would evere surrender to South Korea..... hating Japan is a luxury they can afford nuking Japan is not.

Yeah that, and they should sue for peace as soon as they launch the nuke and seriously, I don't think that would stop US (and now call me tinfoil, but Japan has everything needed for a nuke, it's just not put together) from counterstriking at once. Propably even before a nuke hits Tokyo.
lol wtf

hooray I found the insert quote's option..... :)

anyway calling a truce after dropping a nuke won't work, I'm surprised it's even mentioned.

Iraq didn't do anything but sit around for 12 years and get accused and they've since been destroyed, regime toppled and are currently saying bye bye to any and all of their oil revenue.

North Korea is still around because they haven't used nukes but once you play that card you don't get it back.

sueing for peace would require North Korea to have about 100 reliable and accurate Nukes, then using 1 would just piss everyone off and trigger a new cold war.

I feel I should draw your attention to this 'ere article
http://www.exile.ru/2006-October-20/a_north_korean_blaze_of_glory_.html

It makes a pretty bold conclusion, basically that because the NK government hates Japan more than anything, finally has a weapon and delivery mechanism to strike at them and knows it has no future as a viable government or nation, NK will nuke Japan then surrender to South Korea before anyone can strike back.

Pretty far out, I know, but admit it: it makes for a hell of a lot better reading than the usual news.

Funny thing; Korea is saying that Japan must withdraw from the nuclear talks, because they're "political imbeciles": http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061104/ap_on_re_as/nkorea_nuclear_japan.

I doubt there'd be a cold war as N/K has no real allies and communisim is pretty much outta business too.

Arms races have a habit of getting out hand though. Push the Japs far enough, they'll start pushing back. Remember

The thing is, a lot of people remember things about the Japanese soldiers being told to grow beards to fit in during their tours in Iraq etc, many don't realise that, now that the post-war agreements are starting to be nullified, Japans biggest weakness is numbers, but they more than make up for that in ingenuity. If I were North Korea, I really wouldn't want to piss off Japan.

Yeah, especially with Japan's pacifist period seemingly at an end after 60 years. You've got a bunch of hardliners in government, many of them from influential nationalist families, who are again coming around to the view that it is right and proper that Asia bow to the Land of the Rising Sun. It certainly doesn't bode well for North Korea, who have no realistic chance of matching Japan politically or economically. Which is why I think that they may be just crazy enough to go out in a blaze of glory, knowing that it is the only way they can ever hurt Japan.
